Neat gambit about using the Source, I'd never have thought of it, and no one
showed me that trick before. Very Cool!

And me just being a high school Stage Band, Marching Band and Symphonic band
drummer and rock drummer, and wanta-be jazz drummer--well the EastWest one may
be better, but as I haven't heard the demos, the UI is inaccessible, and this
just grabbed me--and much less expensive than the hardware synths that don't
sound nearly as much like what I expect to hear of a modern movie orchestra or
recorded symphony orchestra... Yes, I know that was one Geoff Chapman run-on
sentence, but this just got my motor runnin...

Now, I finally get the point of MIDI, and for the first time understand why one
might choose not to have the joy of hardware... I'm sure not going to be able
to play all of those instruments to get anything I'd be happy with. But time,
one track for player in a section, each section a stem, each sectional stem
mixed down to where they all should be heard from as a section on stage, and
the sectional stems mixed down to two track or surround sound... What a lovely
way to spend one's weekends and evenings!

I'd have it in a heart beat as a band director, and let my assistant slave his
way through getting each section the way I wanted it to be, then use that to
train the ears and sensibilities of the students, then, they could better pick
out and appreciate their parts in a real Wind Ensemble or Orchestral
transcription of the piece on vinyl, or CD.

Me, I sure would like to find a way to cadge those promo discs Sheet Music
Publishers send to band directors! And from there, to buying the actual
full-length recordings of my favorites on those...

Anyway, thanks for getting my classical ears back on. I haven't done that much
at all since 1999 since my Classically Trained Piano and Voice Major bride
died. And as it turns out, the sonorities are much more comforting than most
of my rock--think I'll be listening to XM and Live365 stations a bunch!

Nick

  Found these on:

Bill, you may wish to keep these somewhere handy for customers wishing to
hear the product before purchase. Took me a while because I had to pull the
links out of the source code. Anyway, 18 demos below. Off to make a cup of
tea now. Catch you all in a bit. Enjoy!

Hey, can you provide a couple of direct links to demos, because the ones I
found on the Garritan site didn't work, and the Youtube ones were really piss
poor. excuse my french.

I'd actually really love to be able to say what I've heard so far has blown
me away, but they either are very poor, or the demos I've heard aren't official
demos and just uploaded by wallies.

  Cheers
  Darren

Here-here! I also heard the new Jazz and Big Band stuff, and it's pretty good.

Will respectfully agree to disagree. If you want good orchestral sounds
the Garritan Personal Orchestra is fantastic! Way better than Dimension Pro.
The strings on Dimension Pro are good but the Garritan ones are in a different
league again. I purchased it just for the strings but, if I were into
orchestral stuff, I would purchase it for that as nothing else comes close. I
don't use orchestral stuff much here however, I will be using the strings on
some of my backing tracks in the future. In fact, I may even revoice some of
the tracks that I have with the Garritan strings. Also, playing them is a
dream. They just respond as you would expect.
