IMO, five is probably at or above the max. Twelve will absolutely never
work.

Therre are limits to how much you can change the pitch of a sample before it
will degrade in one direction or another. How many semitones did you try to
move the sample?

Though I've tried that with something I did, I found out it changed the
quality of the audio as well. In other words, when I went down low, it would
sound like a big monster. Then when I went up high, it would sound like a
little chipmunk. How do I fix that situation?

Hi,
To change the pitch of a sample, first select the track the sample is on,
and go to the Process menu with Alt+P, then choose Transpose. Check the
check box that says something like "Transpose Audio", then Shift+Tab back to
the amount box and use the Up or Down arrow keys to select a value. There's
also a combo box with various options, but I recommend choosing the "Radius
Mix" one. After that, press OK, and your sample will be pitch-shifted down.
This feature came in handy for me recently, as I used it to transpose the
pitch of a song I was trying to learn on my accordion in a specific key.
   Hope this helps.

Yours Sincerely,
Kelly John Sapergia
