Hi, The big difference between the 1010 LT and the 1010 is that you get a break-out box with the 1010 that has all the connectors housed in it whereas the LT has a bunch of leads coming out the back of the PCI card. The box is connected to the PCI card with a cable. Some people say that having the components in the rack-mountable breakout box makes the card a bit quieter. It may be the kind of thing that is possible to measure with instruments but most mere mortals cannot notice with our ears. See our page at HYPERLINK "http://www.dancingdots.com/prodesc/soundcards.htm"http://www.dancingdots.co m/prodesc/soundcards.htm for a description of the Delta 1010 rack version and also the 1010 LT. Here's what it says about the rack unit: PCI 8x8 Balanced/Unbalanced Analog I/O, S/PDIF I/O, MIDI I/O I have used the 1010 LT but not the PCI 1010. But this description says there are 8 blanked inputs so connecting an XLR mic sounds like no problem.
