hey Barbie, its Mike from Montreal, I am so glad for you as well that you were
able to make things work with Bill’s help, and every one on list.
This too made my day, and I want to wish you the very best in the new year.

Hi Bill,

Thank you so much! That worked! Changing the drive in the options audio to
asio made everything work correctly! Much joy and happiness was heard at my
house today when the mic finally worked!

Hello, Barbie,

Have you set your audio interface to use the driver mode of ASIO? That is
worth a try. You will find the driver mode under the Advanced tab in SONAR’s
Audio options. Run SONAR and press ALT+O for Options and then type the
letter u for Audio. Press CONTROL+TAB until you land on the Advanced page.
Press the TAB key until you reach the list of Driver Modes.

HTH,
Bill

Subject: [ddots-l] help with mixer problems

Hello listers,

First of all, I want to express my deep appreciation for all of the super
help I’ve received from this list as I take this musical journey toward
making my music dreams come true. It has been well worth the work!

About 2 months ago while trying to make a vocal recording, I was having
difficulties with the mic tracks. I emailed this list and got some great
advise to try plugging in my mic into something else and making sure it
worked and plugging other mics and other chords into the m-audio mixer I was
using to determine if the mic or mixer was having difficulties. The mics
worked but the mixer was not working, popping and buzzing and distorting
everything with any chord I plugged in to any of my mic jacks.

So I believed I needed a new mixer. I got a new presonus audio box USB for
Christmas. I am still having audio track and mic proglems.

My midi tracks seem to function just fine but as soon as I arm an audio track
I am unable to play a single note of a project, with or without a mic plugged
in. As soon as I arm the assigned audio track, it stopps and JAWS announces
“dropout” after a microsecond of playback no matter what project I am in, If
I unarm the assigned audio track, the project plays with no problems at all.
It happens in all projects, no matter where I am within that project.
It drops out in all projects, large or small, midi projects that I want to
add vocals to, audio only projects, projects with frozen midi tracks, even
brand new completely blank projects I create just to test this.

I also tried going to the options, then audio, then tabbed to buffer size and
no matter what I did, high or low there was absolutely no difference. “drop
out” is the result after about 280 to 360 ticks of any measure. So before I
get totally ticked off, LOL, does anyone have any helpful suggestions?

Is this a sonar problem, and if it is, what should I try? Is this a mixer
problem, and if so what can I try? I purchased a 2 year woarentee on the
audio box, I plan to take it back regardless because one of the volume knobs
has a loose cover and does not function perfectly. Should I just purchase
acompletely different mixer? Does anyone have experience with presonitus
audio box USB with sonar and cake talking?

If it is helpful to know, I am running sonar 8.5 producer, cake talking 8.8,
JAWS 15 (I have 17 but am using 15 for my sound recordings, and I am running
windows 7.

Any thoughts are always appreciated.
