Hi Haiping,

It's not easy in any Country to make a living at being a music writer and music arranger, even if your musician skills and producer knowledge is top class it's hard work.

I know a lot of amazing musicians in England that struggle just to keep a steady stream of work.

You never said what software you use as your sequencer or producer package.
If it's orchestra sounds you want then Dimension Pro has some nice expansion packs you can buy and is very accessible using Caketalking from Dancing Dots. unfortunately a lot of the other really good orchestral softsynths are not accessible to blind musicians.

I'm curious to know what you use in your music set up.

Do you use Jaws for speech software?

Subject: [ddots-l] mixing, and how to make a living

Hello,
I'm asking the following because of my situation, I'm not attempt to
ask private things like specific job and salary. But as a Chinese
blind, I have to think more than you.
I just made an orchestral accompaniment of my song for my old
classmate who wants to sing it. It's a political song which is
therefore grandious. But the GPO renders very thing sounds, and we all
don't like the result. Now I'd like to purchase VSL Super Package (I
only want to pay once), but am not sure whether it's valuable. I asked
some people, and knew that my problem is because of not only the
library, but mixing. I'm a newbie of midi, so many things here are
blank fields. Do you make midi and mix all by yourselves? Or do you
have your own studios and have colleagues to mix? Is mixing easy to
the blind? In my situation, I'm a single composer, so nobody can help
me. But I want to make a living with midi. I was a pianist, but the
motion coordination problem prevented me from playing fairly well and
stable. Composition is good, but no orchestra will simply play my
music unless it's good and there's a good sample for them to be
quickly familiar with it. If I write songs for others, I'd like to
make accompaniment myself, because additional work by other people
will not only reduce my incoming but make the customer think that my
skill is not complete. These are my own thoughts only, but I want to
ensure how you deal with your projects and how you can make a living
with it.

Regards
Haipeng
