Not necessarily. For example, if you have done a clean Sonar install or,
you have changed a sound card on your system.

Phil,

If all the correct inputs and outputs are checked in the audio options,
wouldn't the master bus automatically be assigned?

Check the output to you're master bus in the bus view. Sounds like that's
silent. meaning that it's routed to no sound card outputs.

o,

i recently installed sonar 8.5 and ct 8 on my computer. when i open old
projects everything works fine. when i open sonar and a blank project, i get
no audio. i hit alt z and all it says is "audio engine turned off." it won't
say "audio engine turned on," when i hit alt z again. no softsynths work,
and audio tracks don't record. all my audio card drivers are enabled and
checked. any thoughts?

Thanks.
