[ddots-l] thinking about control surfaces

Hi all,

Today I talked to someone on msn, who told me that a control surface can be a
great help in getting the musical work done. From what I've heard however,
there are pro's and cons.

Is it true that there are software synthesizers with an inaccessible interface,
that we can easily control using a control surface with Sonar? Will a control
surface solve most problems with an inaccessible synth?

What does a control surface look and feel like? I have a Mackie 1604 mixer, and
I don't have room for yet such another large device.

I heard that control surfaces send out midi signals, to control Sonar remotely.
A disadvantage is, that we can't hear the parameter changes we make. At least,
we can hear them in real time in the music, but jaws won't speak the values of
the sliders it remotely controls. Is this correct? Why would I care for a
control surface, if I can't check what I'm doing?

Appart from the midi signals coming out of a control surface, signals can also
be sent into it. Why is this? What would a control surface do with incoming
midi data?

Does dancing dots recommend, or even better, sell blind friendly control
surfaces?

It is an interesting subject, of which I know as good as nothing. I'd like to
hear your experiences, and if you have them, some answers to my questions.
Especially from folks who use them daily. And of course, also not unimportant,
what can I expect to pay for one.

Hoping to learn again and hear from you,
Paul.

Subject: [ddots-l] i CAN'T GET MY KEYBOARD TO WORK

Hello. I'm trying to get my keyboard to work with sibilus. I know it works
because it worked when everything was hooked up. I had to change the location
of my system so I can't remember. I installed the drivers, but when I hit the
test button in sib, I hear nothing. I'll keep trying though. I think I use an
oxygen 8 keyboard and a midi controller that I also had to install. Thanks and
have a good day.
