If I route jaws cursor to pc cursor I can read everything in the code but the problem with doing that is in order to delete either part or all of that code, I must go back to the pc cursor and then I'm not sure I'm on the code I want to delete. I try to deal with these problems in Window-Eyes as follows: I set up a character dictionary so that left-bracket will say "code" and right-bracket will say nothing. I set ctrl-left and ctrl-right arrows to "word enhanced" instead of read full word. This usually reads what I want, but it does stop at the tilde, or at a dash in the middle of a word. If I were going to refine my strategy a little, I'd do what I did in DBT for DOS for Vocal-Eyes back in 1995: define a "float window" which starts at the cursor position and ends at the first right-bracket to the right. This should work in WE, but I haven't tried it. I have set up Window-Eyes hotkeys for "read previous word" (ctrl-num-PgUp), "read current word" (ctrl-num-RtArrow), and "read next word" (ctrl-num-PgDn) so that I can quickly scan the area around the cursor with speech. I run DBT in "reveal codes" mode most of the time, and agree that some of this would work much better with a braille display connected. This is not an exercise to replace the existing functionality of a screen reader or Windows itself, which may require to be answered by a better explanation of how it's done. e.g. navigating HTML Help files. > >George Bell >Techno-Vision Systems Ltd > Braille is the solution to the digital divide.
