Hi Donald,

Without seeing the file itself, it's almost impossible for
me to even second guess.

Personally, I'd start with Adobe Reader 7, and try doing a
"Save As" HTML, or even text.

Then I'd look at the results, and decide where to go from
there.

George.

Subject: [duxuser] Importing a PDF file into Duxbury

I make no apologies for cross-posting the following. The
subject of PDF files has been thrashed. The product has been
called every bad name imaginable, and the screen reader
companies have been chastised beyond belief. See below.

Okay, George, I am among the chastisers. I have read
Jamal's article in its entirety and did find it
enlightening. But I still hate PDF with a passion because
it so often renders text incorrectly. As long as
accessibility is an add-on and not an integral component of
the program, it will never work satisfactorily.

Nevertheless, I now need to find the best way to import a
PDF file into Duxbury 10.4, retaining as much of the
formatting as possible. Are there some general guidelines
you might suggest to accomplish this. I have Window Eyes
5.5 as well as JFW 6.20 on my system, and I understand some
of the basics of DBT 10.4.

This PDF is a compact disk of a massage therapy textbook.
The permissions are okay, so I can read the text well using
Adobe's latest reader. There may, however, be illustrations
later in the book which I have not yet encountered.

Sincere thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Don Roberts
