Hi Rhonda,
As far as I know, Jaws does not read Maths equations. It will try to
read it in English, so it does sound strange during Maths equations.

I'm been working with Jaws and Maths with DBT for several years and I
am used to it. Of course it will be helpful if you have a braille
display to make sure that the Maths equations are correctly
translated.
