Hi John,
The Latex & Scientific Notebook component of DBT actually works very well.
However, I do have to add a caveat.
Being based in the U.K., I am principally concerned with British Maths Braille.
Here, there are probably no more than a dozen maths braille experts who know
the British code inside out. Thankfully over here, we have two or more
absolutely excellent and highly supportive sighted braille maths experts
(teachers) who have go over the translations with a fine tooth comb.
They have provided us with specific examples of a very few errors and/or
anomalies, which have enabled Duxbury to make corrections. Some of these have
been relatively simple. For example, they found that while the Greek phi was
being correctly translated, varphi was not. That was a genuine omission, and
was simple and quick to fix. However some issues involving spacing rules have
taken a shade longer, but will hopefully be resolved.
Thankfully they have not found anything major or show stopping, and there are
usually simple work rounds pending release of a new version of DBT. Meantime,
teachers and maths students are delighted with the simplicity of what can be
done.
Unfortunately however, it's impractical to release a new version of DBT each
time there is a minor fix, however you may be assured they will be part of the
next release.
All I can add is that if and when errors are found in DBT, they are carefully
documented and reported in detail to Duxbury. If they are genuine "bugs" or
errors, they will be recorded in the new Problem Tracking Database, given a
number, and acknowledged to the person who reported it.
