Anyone contemplating an upgrade of Microsoft Office might like to know that Office 2003 will hit the High Street shelves in October this year. And, yes! Word 2003 works with DBT 10.4, and indeed as far as we can tell, with the next version of DBT currently under development. I don't believe there are any major surprises for Word users, although the correct use of Styles is just as important as it is now. For the more technically inclined, major braille producers, Office 2003 heralds the capability of saving virtually all Office files in a format known as XML. (Extensible Markup Language) Without going into technical details, XML is probably going to be the most major development to hit braille production software, since braille itself. So watch this space in the months and years to come.
