DBT's traditional default is to omit numbering on the first
page. Consequently we are often asked how to change this to
the BANA and BAUK recommendations, which is to number the
first page. (See Bana Rule 1 - 14b copied below)

Does anyone have any valid reason why the default should not
be to number page 1?

George.

Text pages. All pages of text in the braille edition
(including
prefaces, forewords, and introductions) should carry
consecutive braille
page numbers starting with arabic 1 in the first volume. In
subsequent
volumes, pages of text may be numbered consecutively from
volume to
volume. However, if a text is transcribed jointly by several
braillists
or if the braille volumes of a print text are transcribed
out of normal
sequence, the first page of text in each volume should begin
with arabic
1.
