Hi!

MS Word has a very powerful search and replace function for codes. I'm sighted
so I'll have to explain how I use it and hopefully someone else can explain how
it works with a screenreader.
As Lisette mentioned, it is a good idea to start with "show codes" by selecting
the large Paragraph Mark.

On the Edit menu choose Replace.... to bring up the Replace Tab of the Find
and Replace Window. Click on "More" as necessary on the right side to show all
the options. Then click on "Special" at the bottom right. This brings up a
list with the name of the codes such as Paragraph, Manual Line Break, etc.
With the cursor in the Find what: or Replace with: box, select the desired name
to Find or Replace and Word will insert its actual code in the box.

You can use the "Replace All" feature to get rid of all the Paragraph Marks
with one command. This isn't usually want you want. If there are single
Paragraph Marks at the end of each line that you'd like to replace with spaces
but you want to keep the actual paragraphs (which have double Paragraph Marks)
then you need two steps. First replace all the double Paragraph Marks with
something unique that doesn't appear anywhere in your document, perhaps $$$$$.
Then replace the single Paragraph Marks with a space. Then replace the $$$$$'s
with single Paragraph marks.
