National Braille Press www.nbp.org
or more specifically:

Subject: [duxuser] Re: Question about portabooks

Are NBP books readable with braille displays using DBT, or does one have to
purchase a decryption key, like with Bookshare books?

It is my understanding that the CD-ROMs containing braille formatted files
from NBP come with a program called Embossit 2.0. Embossit is written by
Duxbury Systems to make the embossing of braille formatted files as easy as
possible.

As part of the agreement between Duxbury Systems and National Braille Press
is that it is National Braille Press's job to do tech support for the
copies of Embossit that are distributed on their CD-ROMs.

Part of the idea behind Embossit is that embossing braille formatted files
should be easier than dealing with the average braille project.

What is the carriage length and form length? It is the dimensions of the
page already embedded in the file. Thus Embossit does not ask you page
dimensions. Once you specify the file, it already knows the page dimensions.

All DBT users are welcome to emboss braille formatted files with DBT, if
they choose. But you might get exactly the same result with a lot less
complication just by using Embossit.
