Kristyn Leigh:

This is a simple problem with a simple solution. Your embosser has an internal switch, to either turn on or turn off "listening to escape sequences". This has been turned off. So now when DBT send escape sequences, the Romeo does not understand these as new software commands and instead attempts to braille these out. And yet, these show up at the beginning of an embossing job.

There are two solutions

1 (not recommended), tell DBT not to send out escape sequences. You can do that in the middle pane of the embosser setup in DBT. Not recommended since those escape sequences contain useful information which can prevent many other problems. But at least the first line will be right again.

2 (recommended). Give the command on the Romeo to turn on listening for command sequences. Here is a fragment of the Romeo embosser manual explaining this:

Next, make the following adjustments on the keypad to the
menu you are using (we'll assume Menu 1 for this example):
OL Go off-line 0.1E Enter Menu 1
23.1E Turn "recognize escape sequences" on
                    1.1E Reset the embosser

Hello,

I am using an old Romeo 40 with DBT 11.1 with the latest software update. I can't figure out how to get rid of 7 or 8 extra characters that appear at the top of each document. It only happens on the first page, and it still happens if I send multiple copies of the document. It looks like 4 dot 1 (or possibly dot 4) characters followed by dots 4, 6; dots 2, 4, 6; and two more single dot characters.

I have reset the embosser to factory defaults and verified that there is nothing strange at the top of my documents.

All suggestions are welcome.

Thank you!
