Sandy, I have suggestions for a couple of ways your factoring illustration could be brailled. 1. Probably the best way is to braille the numbers leaving extra space. After embossing, use a spur wheel from the back to draw the lines from the twelve to the 3 and 4 and from the 3 to the other 3 and from the 4 to the two 2s. If this is too difficult or time-consuming, you could make it into an equation: 2. 1st line, braille 12; indent your second line 2 cells and braille = 3 X (times) 4; 3rd line (indented as 2nd) = 3X2X2 I think you shouldn't try to use a braille symbol for the carats, since they are just being used as connecting lines. I would welcome any suggestions on how to braille the following problem. This is part of a high school math course. It shows how a number is factored. First line: 12. Second line: a carat, or upside down v indicating that the 12 is broken into two. Third line shows a four and a three. Fourth line: A carat is beneath the four, and a slightly diagonal vertical line is beneath the 3. Fifth line shows a two, another two (these are from the four above), and a three. Any suggestions? Thanks very much for any help or advice.
