Well done, you made it back O.K. (smile)
The VERY simple answer to the accent issue is that dot 4 simply means
that the letter following has an accent. It doesn't say WHAT kind of
accent. Certainly in the UK, one tends to use it only for individual
foreign words within English text. If we quote an entire string in say
Spanish, we use the Spanish Style complete with correct accents.
I'm afraid that if you are a screen reader user, you are not going to be
able to use Scientific Notebook. However, to prepare maths documents
for DBT, you have to do all of the preparation in Scientific Notebook.
Also, it is imperative that the program is used properly, and that text
and formulae are correctly identified, otherwise DBT will not be able to
use the correct translation table.
Once you have an S/N file saved, you simply import it into DBT, then
translate. It will not make any sense at all in DBT's text editor, so
do not be surprised when you see gibberish there.
If you find errors in the braille, you can do one of two things. 1) Go
back to the original S/N file, make corrections, and re-import into DBT,
or 2) edit the Braille file, which should ideally be a last resort.
One of the things I find is often forgotten about where Scientific
Notebook is concerned, is that it is primarily a maths printing package
for sighted students. Moreover, its print can be enlarged almost as
easily as increasing the font size in say Word for Windows. This makes
it ideal for producing large print for partially sighted students as
well, of which there are usually more than braille users.
The bottom line is that if those preparing maths papers used S/N, there
is very little additional effort required to produce large print and/or
braille.

Thanks, George and Patrick so much. I was confused because I would
check my BANA manual and it should the dot 4. Can I ask why it is that
way, though?
I have another question. Is anyone out there using Scientific notebook
with Duxbury and how do you get started with it? Do I do all my math
formatting in SN first and then export it to Dux, or what? I am not
serving any students right now that require braille but am working with
other VI teachers in our region on the effectiveness of Duxbury
And don't worry George about answering the email. I probably didn't
send it right the first time anyway.

Sorry if I missed your other postings.
DBT is in fact translating this correctly according to the Spanish Style
within an English document. As Patrick says in his response, if you
really want dot 4 e, you will have to simply leave the text in Grade 1.

George, I have posted to the list a few times but have not received an
answer back to my first question. I am trying again. I am having
problems translating print Spanish accents to the correct format in
braille. In my document I have written the sentence "Es este el camino
a Puebla? " and have applied the style ''spanish' correctly to the
sentence. In the sentence however, the "e" in este has an e with the
acute accent. When I translate to braille, everything else is in
uncontracted braille as it should be except for the letter that is
supposed to have the dot 4 in front of it. It is translated "the'.
What might I be doing wrong? I have tried cutting and pasting the
accent symbol from the characters list and have approached it by
entering the accent using F5 from the Layout menu. I'm as they say in
Texas "stumped"

There is just one slight problem with trying to automate any kind of
spell checking - human error.
