Hi Andrew and all,

I'm covering the subject of Templates in more detail for the next phase of the
DBT Help files, but meantime, let me try to explain the process. "PLEASE NOTE
ANDREW - there are already special BRITISH Templates in DBT, BRITNC.DXP and
BRITWC.DXP, for creating British No Capitals and British With Capitals."

The default installation of DBT contains two pre-set Templates. Standard &
Textbook. You CANNOT make any changes to these at all.

BRITISH users have two additional templates which CAN be modified. "British No
Capitals" and "British With Capitals". Although a new installation of Version
10.4 gives you the option to automatically install these, earlier versions and
upgrading does not. (For installation details, see Help - New Users Start Here
- International Setup and go down to "British Templates".

To create a new Template, I suggest you start a new untitled Document using one
of the existing Templates. Before you go any further, let's save this blank
file. I would suggest that for consistency, when you name it, you use the
format TMPxxxx.dxp where "xxxx" identifies the type of template, for example
"TMPCOMP.DXP" to indicate it's perhaps a computer braille template. I'd also
suggest you save it in your DBTDOCS folder if possible, although you could also
save it in your c:\duxbury folder.

Now, make any changes you want to the Styles to reflect what you want to do. I
guess in Andrew's case, he'd want to add a code to the DBT "para." Style to
force blank lines between paragraphs.

Once you are happy with the changes, save the file.

NOTE: You can add some explanatory text to this file if you wish, however it
will NOT appear when you open a new document using the resultant template we
are about to create.

Next, with that file still open, go to the Document Menu and select "Create
Template". In the dialogue that follows, you are going to give your Template a
name. Bear in mind that the list of Templates is in Alphabetical Order, and so
if you want your new Template is to be the default, and to save you cursoring
down each time you create a new document, you many want to call it something
like, "Andy Computer" to put it above say "British xxx".

For the more technical, which explains why you couldn't find your "Andrew"
template Andrew, what happens is that DBT creates a special Template file
associated with "Andy Computer" called TMP####.DXT, where #### is a sequential
number such as 0007, 0008 etc.. And no! I'm afraid you cannot simply copy
these files to another system.

OK? So next time you create a new document, or import one, you should find
your new Template in the list.

So what happens if I want to change my template?

Easy! Go to File, Open, and select your TMPCOMP.DXP file. Make any changes
you require to the Styles/codes.

If you want these changes to be "permanent", you can save the .dxp file,
otherwise....

Go to the Document Menu, Create Template. You can either type in the exact
same name, or you can cursor down the list to the Template name, which will
then appear in the "Name for New Template:" text box. When you press the OK
button, you will get a warning that you are about to overwrite an existing
Template, so if you are happy to do so, press OK or Yes again.

One final note for British users. You can use BRITNC.DXP or BRITWC.DXP rather
than starting with a blank file if you wish. You can also make changes to
these files, and save using the same Template Names for British.

I hope this explains the process OK, but if you are not entirely sure, please
feel free to come back to me.
