Hi all,

Duxbury 10.4 will work with Windows XP and Professional. We thrash both
daily here in the United Kingdom, along with Windows 2000.

Now from here on, I speak as the U.K. dealer, and specifically NOT for
Duxbury.

I have to say that as far as on-going testing and development goes, we
here are tending to concentrate on Windows 2000 and Windows XP Home and
Professional.

Why? Basically because Windows 98SE and earlier operating systems are
no longer officially supported by Microsoft. (However, you can pay
Microsoft for support calls until January 2004.)

Please don't think that Duxbury are going to simply stop all support for
Windows 98Se and earlier. As far as humanly and practically possible, I
believe they will maintain backward compatibility.

However, just as DOS and Windows 3.1# have virtually become history, so
must Windows 95 and 98. There are features you all want which simply
cannot be done in in older operating systems. Trying to maintain
support across such a wide range of systems becomes a serious cost
factor. Sad, but a fact of life.

And as things progress, it is almost inevitable that there may even be
incompatibilities with files between versions of DBT. For example, many
of us want page information stored with each file. That may well appear
in 10.5, but of course, older files will not contain this new
information.

Well, as usual, I've perhaps said more than I should have, but as
someone here said, I tend to say it as it is.

George Bell.
