Thanks Diana, we tried that but it only seems to give control of the overall  
background and the font, whereas we want to tweak the highlighting applied by 
the program, in this case the grey area behind the code names. Yellow on green 
does indeed distinguish that highlighting but this particular user cannot see 
colour at all so that choice made the words hard to read.

Try going to display - appearance - advanced and there is a drop down list
for lots of items. You can change the colours of backgrounds, fonts etc
for all these items. I avoid using a completely black background and white
text as I have also had the problem of black text on a black background.
You could try a dull green background and yellow text. I usually save the
current theme first so that if things go wrong, I can return to the
original theme.
