Hi Teri,

I'll try to answer your questions, bearing in mind we're a
UK dealer for Index.

> Is it possible for dbt to emboss batches of files?

No. I don't think you can even do that with Word for
Windows, at least not easily.

> Also, how much will the buffer of the index basic d hold?

About 100 pages of braille minimum, or 196,000 of
characters, but may depend on firmware level.

> It is very very noisy and I have a seven volume book I
want to emboss, perhaps it would be about 600 braille pages.

Suggest your employer buys an acoustic cabinet. That really
does cut down the noise.

> I would like to be able to set dbt up to emboss this group
of files and go out of the house.

See above re "batches", but should not be a problem, other
than for the fact that 600 pages is going to be a big pile
of paper once it is embossed. We (TVS) have made special
"bins" which will take up to 1,000 sheets of embossed paper,
and are about 3 feet high. They can be made by any
handyman.

> Also, while I'm asking about the basic d, I tried to get
it to print a banner page and it didn't seem to be able to
do it.

Very tricky to try and figure out without more information.
What were your results?

> This seems surprising to me since it can print graphics
when the help button is pressed.

What "graphics" button? DBT does not emboss any kind of
graphics for a banner page.

> Has anyone else using dbt 10.4 ever had a problem printing
banner pages?

I think we'd have heard about this if there was a problem.

> It worked ok with the basic bluebar. Has it got
something to do with whether the basic d is set to double or
single sided braille?

Highly unlikely.
