To Ann and others on Duxuser:

Smart Quotes are a real problem, because we at Duxbury want to trust the input file. By substituting characters, the makers of Word Processors put us in a possition where we are making changes to our customer's file, presumably to get back to the author's original intentions.

I would like to point out that this is more of an issue for the file importer than the translator. In other words, if you already have a dxp Duxbury inkprint file, and you upgrade your software, you are unlikely to see changes. But if you import more files, you may see some changes.

Duxusers should be aware that the file format: Word/2003, Word/2007 (Word/2010 is just like Word/2007), HTML, etc. each have their own file import systems.

I do know that there was some work to deal with smart quotes for the Word/2007 (2010) file import just before software release.

If you do have concerns that you want to bring to Duxbury, be sure to supply the original inkprint Word Processor file, and a description of how to locate that characters that cause you concern.

Since Duxbury 10.3, we have experienced problems with translating what MS-Word calls "smart" symbols like fractions and quotes and the apostrophe. Does V 11 translate those symbols properly?
