Apps I use as an android user.
I changed my launcher to: A simple launcher, an app produced by Harristown.
Ae launcher loads up the android system. And the app I use sets out the screen
differently.
I can choose to have 6 to 36 apps on the home screen which is the first screen
to load up, so I don’t have to swipe through lots of screens.
First have the accessible app for android on, it’s called TALKBACK.
Then load the new app, A SIMPLE LAUNCHER.
At this point you will be asked which you want running, the default launcher of
Samsung or the A SIMPLE LAUNCHER.
Choose the A SIMPLE LAUNCHER.
Next explore the screen and decide how many apps you want on your home screen,
6 to 36.
To add apps to the home screen.
Find a square or location that is blank.
Double tap it and hold down on that point.
You hear a tone and then a list of your apps are listed on the screen.
Find one you want, like settings, or camera, calculator, contacts and so on.
Double tap the one you want and the screen returns to the home screen and
places that app on at the point you chose earlier.
Go through the home screen loading up the apps you might want.
On the home screen, there is already one: A SIMPLE LAUNCHER SETTINGS APP, and
this takes you into that apps menu to do various things, you cannot remove this
app, it is fixed on the home screen.
On my home screen I have for example:
Settings: this gets you in to androids functions.
Next bus Dublin: this gets me in to town, it gives times and road names of
various bus stops.
Play store: this is where you search for apps to download and there are
hundreds of thousands of them.
Pocketcast: a pod download programme.
Sullivan+ a programme that uses camera to read text or tell you what objects
are in view.
SOUNDRECORDER: This was designed for the visually impaired and is a good
recorder, simple and good recordings. Very basic.
topFM A radio for BBC and other so called liked UK radio stations.
ZOOM: How I contact you lot on Monday.
There are so many apps for android and really it takes a time to find ones that
might suit your liking.
If you search for Accessible apps in the Playstore, lots will turn up.
Often apps are not in strict alphabetical order, guess this gives everyone a
chance to promote their app.
Lots of apps are free, some give a week to practice, others are free but have
adds popping up, but usually you are given the choice to buy the app which then
is add free.

Excellent Minutes Paul.
Plus the two finger swipe left and right worked a treat. I haven't tried the
other stuff yet.

meeting 14/02/22
Hi Folks, its St. Valentines day
Hope all you Guys are laden down with wagon loads of nice flowers for
the women in your life.
It was an Android day with questions from Jackie, which were dealt
with by our Android users, John and Bob.
Jackie wanted to know what apps were available and suitable for VIP'S.
Jackie said that her Android smart phone had Bixby, as an artificial
helper rather like Siri.
Bob suggested the following as accessible apps for Jackie. Next bus,
which tells you the times for the next bus.
FM radio which allows one to listen to the best British radio stations.
BBC Sound is also available to Android users.
John told Jackie to use the L swipe gesture to engage Talk Back , go
to the top left hand side of your home screen, and run your finger
down and at the bottom swipe right to engage talk back.
John reads his E- mails this way.
Marian wanted some information on what she should buy with a view for
the best screen resolution possible.
Many people suggested she take a look at the latest Lenovo laptops.
Cearbhall gave some sound advice, and in the end suggested she should
contact Harvey Norman, who will give her the latest information on
laptops with good screen resolution.
Claire told us of the facility Silence, which appears on the menu,
more information on that phone call you got,
Like block this caller or unblock this caller. Clicking Silence, will
allow the call to take place, without a ringer alert,
And if the call is a scam, well you did not answer, and if its
genuine, then the caller may leave a phone message.
There was a discussion on the latest fad, Wordle, which I have
played with a little help from my friends.
Vera has downloaded this game from the app store.
Nobody knows if this game is accessible for visually impaired persons.
Mary has promised to download the wordle app, and try it from a visual
impaired point of view.
That's all folks
Paul
