Bad news, iPhone users: Apple looks set to push back a number of big updates
to iOS until next year.
Major upgrades to the home-screen design, in-car user interfaces,
photo-editing tools and the mail app have been delayed until 2019, according
to Axios
<https://www.axios.com/scoop-apple-delays-ios-features-to-focus-on-reliabili
ty-performance-1517278421-d7722a3b-402e-4804-8f24-719154bf2a8e.html> .

However, this year will reportedly see improvements to augmented reality, as
well as parental controls and digital health. Apple are also apparently
working on making iPhones less prone to customer support issues.

*

The schedule changes were apparently announced by the company's software
head Craig Federighi at a meeting earlier this month.

Digital Spy has reached out to Apple for comment.

The delay comes after a rough few months for the tech giant, notably after
they admitted to deliberately slowing down older iPhone models
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/apple/news/a845971/apple-admits-software-slo
ws-down-old-phones-reason-why/> .

While they denied doing this to encourage users to splurge on newer models,
the company did offer an apology
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/apple/news/a846310/apple-offers-fix-delibera
tely-slowing-down-old-phones/> .

On top of that, earlier this month Apple revealed that nearly all iPhone
users were at risk of a widespread security threat
<http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/apple/news/a846717/apple-confirms-security-t
hreat-almost-all-devices/>  - bugs called Spectre and Meltdown.

"All Mac systems and iOS devices are affected, but there are no known
exploits impacting customers at this time," the company said.

"Since exploiting many of these issues requires a malicious app to be loaded
on your Mac or iOS device, we recommend downloading software only from
trusted sources such as the App Store."
