It's been a busy few months for the Braille Group. Our beginner's group are
coming to the end of the Uncontracted Braille Course. The Electronic Braille
meets monthly, and we have welcomed several new members to the group.
Braille videos have been added to the NCBI YouTube channel and over the
coming weeks we are going to promote these videos.
Uncontracted Braille:
Uncontracted Braille can be found on medication, elevators, and some
household items such as bleach. uncontracted braille can also be good for
labelling items in the home and for playing cards.
Uncontracted braille translates each individual print letter, number, or
punctuation mark into a braille sign. Braille symbols are formed within
units of space known as braille cells. A full braille cell consists of six
raised dots arranged in two parallel rows each having three dots. ... A
single cell can be used to represent an alphabet letter, number, punctuation
mark, or even a whole word.
The following are the Braille Cells for the first 5 Letters of the Alphabet:
. a is represented by Dot 1
. b is represented by Dot 1, Dot 2
. c is represented by Dot 1, Dot 4
. d is represented by Dot 1, Dot 4, Dot 5
. e is represented by Dot 1, Dot 5

Braille Sense Polarais
The BrailleSense Polaris is a 32-cell braille notetaker with many features,
including a fully functional Word Processor that provides access to a
variety of file formats such as doc, docx, txt, brl, and brf.
We recently uploaded a video to YouTube that introduces the Braille Sense
Polarais, its functionality and the physical layout of the device.
