Well done Paul, you are a brave man indeed! LOL.
So just ask Alexa to spell any word slowly and she will oblige.
In the case say of trying to turn off the radio on Alexa I just switch to
another station and request again and that works.
It is still an issue with me turning off that first radio station but not so
bad now I ggrant you.
I'll be interested in checking out that Vital Tech site later as it sounds good
indeed.
Too I'm due to trial the Orcam Read 3 on Tuesday week and can report back to
here should anyone be interested in my thoughts of it.
I'm hoping to be left alone with the device for a number of minutes after being
shown how to operate it and trust that can be facilitated for me.
It is supposed to do a great job of reading for the blind, books and the like
so we'll see.
It will work too for visually-impaired too and there are other orcam devices
too but a lot more expensive I think.
Thanks for a very informative report of today's minutes.

Hello Folks, No your not dreaming it’s Paul from the Monday Dublin Tech club,===========================================================
attempting to do the notes for today’s Corkmeeting.
It’s not often a mere Dublin Jackeen would be seconded to do some minutes
for those Cork lads, especially as the heavyweights of the tech club , like
Lady Jackie and that world class tennis player Stuart would not be in
attendance.
Reading recent notes from the Cork tech club, the participants are given a
seat on a high class train, but today you will be travelling on a broken down
bus, so strap yourselves in securely, and let’s go!
There were 7 Participants for today’s meeting and apologies were given by
three people.
One of the best things was this interesting website.

About Vital Tech
Welcome to Vital Tech – your one stop guide to life-enhancing tech.
Vital Tech will be especially useful for you if you are blind or
partially sighted
Don’t know anything about it myself, but it looks very interesting and
informative.
I gather that it works for instance , by creating a series of three buttons.
The first button could power on your washing machine, the second button could
engage the wash that you want, and the third button could select
temperature for example.
This principle could be used for a smart phone as well, powering on the
phone, select the paper that you want to read, and selecting your favourite
podcast.
Before I forget , I got a great bit of tech help from Ken, When struggling to
spell a difficult word, Ken uses Alexa, like the rest of us. But I find this
rather difficult, as my screen reader will call out the letters that I am
typing while listening to Alexa. But Ken demonstrated a novel way of doing
this by asking Alexa to spell Hippotamus, and he said Alexa spell Hippotamus
slowly.
.
This Alexa did very well, and has improved , I hope my spelling.
There was a good discussion on the merits of those Envision and Orbit reader
glasses.
Joanne is going to Dublin to try out the Envision glasses, but feels that a
mere half hour trying these glasses will not be enough, she would want to
have a free trial with the glasses for a couple of weeks at home, to make
an informed decision on whether to make a purchase or not.
These glasses cost aroung 4, 000€
Cearbhall brought up a conversation on using soundscape with Bling square.
Bling square will call out the number of houses as you pass by, and
soundscape will tell you when your coming to a junction, and call out the
rroads left and right of where you are at the time.
He has blind square with the sound lowered to hear soundscape and vice versa.
Cearbhall is having his Kitchen redesigned and was telling us , how he came
to select the type his wife wanted, and how he came to engage the builders.
Talk of electric cars, automatic cars began permeating the airwaves.
This was fascinating and will be very relevant from now on with the large
increase in electric car sales.
Ken told us of his guide dog’s relationship with his family Jack Russell dog.
It seems that his Jack Russell is a bit of a bully, to his long suffering
guide dog.
Paul had the same problem reported by several people during the last
few weeks, That problem of Alexxa playing a radio station, but when
you ask her to stop playing, she wont do that,
But after many powering on and off, the problem seems to have gone away,
and that blitch also of highering and lowering the sound is also back to
normal.
A general discussion on the various skills that Alexa has ensued, like
Question of the day, the Daily connection and so on was had.
At this point I will leave the sound of the River Lee, and head back
to the real Capital of Ireland. That’s all Folks
Paul
