Kevin,
I found one critical step that I was doing wrong! When I went to retrace my
steps after completing the recording, I turned around to go back and then
turned on the directional instructions.
Today, I ran two tests here with amazing success and precision!
This time, I was careful to keep facing the way that I had stopped and let the
directions advise me to turn around. It retraced each move perfectly and even
directed me down the stairs by actually naming the stairs which surprised me.
It further directed me to turn right at the dog-leg in the stairs. It also told
me to keep straight down the stairs after some six or seven steps.
It seems to be critical to keep the phone upright and facing consistently
forward. I imagine it would be a good idea to rest it in a lanyard or a top
pocket to maintain a good orientation.
Very impressive, after all.
All the best,
Cearbhall

Hi all
Just to let you know I got access to the Clew app in the Irish app store. I
went in through the apple vis website. I downloaded it over the weekend and it
didn't work for me either. It needs further development.

Hey Cearbhall
That gave me a very needed laugh. When I tried it I would have ended up in a
farmyard. However, going up to the hospital on Tuesday so will test it out
with turning left and right down long corridors.
if I find my way out of the hospital i'll report back on Saturday.

Bert and all,
I opened up Clew in a room at the front of the house facing the front
window; I turned right to go out the room door into the front hall; I
turned right again immediately to walk along the side of the
staircase to the kitchen at the back of the house;
10 feet into the kitchen I turned left to go out into the sun room
and immediately, right to go some 15 feet to the back door.
I stopped the recording at this point.
I turned 180 degrees to reverse my steps.
The app told me to turn back again 17 feet which would have taken me out the
back door!
There is a sort of ticking sound that confirms that you are travelling in
the expected direction.
Not to be bullied, I turned to retrace my steps and the app was insistent
that I turn around and go back out the door!
I forced it into the kitchen and it proceeded to direct me out the window.
I gave up on this, assuming I must have done something wrong to set it
taking me the wrong way.
Standing in my kitchen with my back to the back garden. I started
recording and walked forward into the hall towards the front door; At
the foot of the stairs (about 17 feet forward) I turned 180 degrees
to go up the stairs; The stairs has a dog leg at the top and so I turned 90
degrees to the left; On the landing, I turned right into the first room on
the right.
I then stopped the recording when I reached the room window which is at the
back of the house.
I turned around with my back to the window and started looking for
directions.
The app told me to walk forward 17 feet; This took me out of the room
and back to the landing; The app said turn right; This was wrong as I
had come from the stairs on my left but it would not let me go that way.
In other words, so far the results are absolutely hopeless!
When I co-operated with the directions, the app reported a shortening
distance so it had a specific target point in mind. However, my neighbours
would not welcoem me coming through their wall just to find out what that
target might be!
I'll keep trying and report if I find out what is wrong.
All the best,
Cearbhall

2019
In attendance Derry Walsh, Ken Walsh, Pat Mc Carthy, What’s app
participants Noreen Meagher, Jackie Mc Brearty and Cearbhall O Meadhra.
The group discussed at today’s meeting from now on Ken or whoever is
writing up the minutes of future meetings peoples apologies that can’t
make it will be no longer noted. Feel free to send your apologies to the
mailing list as people have been doing already.
Also when Derry sends out the reminder emails of upcoming meetings. It
would be great if people could advise us if they wish to join the meeting
by replying to the email.
Ken informed the group that you could now use audio messaging on WhatsApp.
Ken noticed when starting an audio message voice-over started talking at
the start. Jackie informed the group of a workaround.
Derry wanted to find out on how to start a group call on WhatsApp. Ken
helped Derry with this.
Jackie told the group she used her Apple Watch to find her iPhone with the
feature find my iPhone.
The group had a General discussion on how silent electric cars are for
vision impaired people.
Ken informed the group it takes the iPhone SX 3 hours to fully charge.
Apparently this is a common fault with this model.
This led onto a general chat about iPhones and what old models you
can purchase still
Cearbhall told The group about the app Clew. Jackie informed us this app is
only available on the American App Store.
This led on to Jackie and pat informing the meeting about signing out of
the Irish App Store and signing into the American App Store.
Noreen and Jackie led a discussion on the purchasing of audiobooks.
The Group discussed if the WhatsApp group call was all ready started and if
a particular person that was running a bit late wanted to join the group
call. All that person needs to do is just send a text message to the
WhatsApp group and one of the people already involved in the call will get
an alert to say someone wishes to join the call.. then someone will call
that particular person back.
The next Cork meeting is on 2nd of March.
All the Best,
Ken ===========================================================
