Excellent account Cearbhall. only nine weeks to go and you'll be released from
note taking prison.
Monday's meetings don't count if Paul is not available.

On a very mild late Autumn day, the Cork meeting got underway even before the
arrival of the notetaker! Someone had discovered that Zoom meetings can be
streamed to group members or out to various servers. Here is a link to read
more if anyone wants to follow this up:

The group seems to be awash with potential notetakers - all of whom have to
take a back seat for 10 weeks as the present writer makes up for lost
contributions.
Jackie's iPhone goes ballistic whenever she adds a link into an email in the
Mail app under IOS. Others agreed that this is a known difficulty for which no
solution could be found on other discussion groups. Nothing daunted and
determined to find a solution, the meeting got to work to unravel the problem.
Having satisfied themselves that the issue was Voiceover and HTML, the
breakthrough came from Adrian, that the Mail is trying to open the link and is
blocking Voiceover and any other software activity in the process. Adrian
discovered a flag called: "add link previews " that is turned on by default.
Jackie, Stuart and Ken eagerly tried out this solution and were thrilled to
find that it worked perfectly! They could now insert a link and continue typing
without the original interference. This is such a real breakthrough for so many
users that it is hoped that FB-Exchange can claim the victory in AppleVis and
other discussion groups.
To get to this switch follow thee steps: settings/ mail/ composing/ Then swipe
down several times to find "Add link previews" and untick it to disable it.
Stuart spoke about the Humane Pin" from apple. Humane, a company started by a
pair of ex-Apple employees, wants to squash the tyranny of the touchscreen. The
company has developed a tiny device that magnetically pins to your clothing,
where it can replicate a phone's core functions like answering calls, sending
messages, and translating speech. It retails for approximately $699.

Claire has a smart air frier which she can use by visually controlling the
smart screen panel. She wondered if she could operate it from an app so that
she could turn it on when out of the house. Jackie reported that a strict EU
Regulation forbids access to Air Friers when not physically present to press
the "Start" button to prevent accidents. Not all friers are accessible with
Voiceover but Jackie finds the Cosori Frier to be fully accessible.
Ann Marie was struggling to make space available on her One-Drive. Various
members advised that she remove unwanted files to make space. To see the full
range of possible reasons for a full One-Drive, see the following:

Adrian recommended trying Windows Defender to make sure that there is no Spam
material filling up the One-drive space.
Someone sought advice on a full list of Voiceover keystrokes and was referred
to the AppleVis collection of manuals.
Jackie was disappointed to find that she could not tell the charge to date for
her electricity from the smart meter. The best she could get was a daily
half-hourly record of usage and a projected estimate of the bill to date but no
concrete information. It appears that ESB Networks can supply a set of
half-hourly readings for the full period from the last published bill to date
which the user could then put into a spreadsheet application like Excel and
calculate the total for themselves.
Frequent ads make a great nuisance for users of Facebook. Despite using ad
blockers, ads still come in and distract from the real purpose of the App. Ad
blockers cost 12€ per month and some ads still get around the blocker.
It was noted that there are no ads on Messenger. Users of YouTube are also
plagued by ads. The button to "Skip Ad" may sometimes appear but only after a
short period of advertising has already taken place.
Security of identity was a big topic and many prefer the finger print method as
Face ID depends on too many variables to be reliable for a user with a visual
impairment.
A number of members use the One4All app. The One4all App can be installed
giving access to a one-stop hub where you can access and spend your cards
in-store and online, keep track of your balance, view transaction history, card
details for spending online and add your gift card to your digital wallet.
Ken is a regular user of Revolut but could not get in to access the update.
Others pointed out that he would need to flick backwards to find it.
Adrian felt that he would like to use his smart watch when out and about but it
needs to be up to your ear. Others pointed out that they would not feel
comfortable with the watch up to their ear and prefer to rely on the smart
phone for that purpose.
Joanne reported her successful use of the Zuzanka app to check the bar code on
various products to find the date of manufacture or the expiry date.

That’s all for now, folks!
All the best,
Cearbhall
