Thanks, Ken, it was a bit rushed, unfortunately but I am glad to hear that it
covered enough!
All the best,

Apologies noted.
In the unusual moist and sweltering heat of a late Autumn Summer with a
sprinkling of thunder the chat was mighty and the banter brisk and humorous.
Jackie announced, with relief, that all her collections on the iPhone came
back after 24 hours. There was an general failure within Audible that caused
the problem which she reported last week.
Managing diabetes came up for discussion. Pat and Ger use the Libra freestyle
which is described in detail on an NCBI podcast if readers would like to know
more.
Costs of €60 per week were mentioned as the cost of using the scanner.
Sighted assistance is generally needed but Ger uses a magnifying glass to
see the scanner.
The value of the electronic smart scanners is that they can link directly to
the hospital so the clinician can assess the patient's progress remotely.
An inspired discussion on the meaning of Greek symbols arose from the use of
the word "Libra" as the name of the diabetic scanner.
Paul reported that he was up to 41 in the quick fire quiz on Alexa. Joanne
pipped that with her score of 79 - most impressive!
Martin demonstrated the recently discovered skill on Alexa called The "oracle
of light". which connects to the text-davinci-003 (chatGPT) language model
developed by OpenAI.
Ken and Jackie reported that WhatsApp messenger shows when any user was last
actively using the service.
A highly dramatic moment was reached when Ken announced that he had to thank
Jackie for her brilliance in untangling all his aps and finally convincing
him of the value of folders. Jackie was delighted to receive this
acknowledgment and pointed out that there is no limit to the number of apps
that can be held in one folder. Ken then sought to demonstrate how easy it is
to use folders but suffered the disaster of losing his apps and their folder
during the demonstration. All members contributed suggestions for the
recovery of his apps. Ken found them again after much heartache and
perspiration!
Pat saves himself all these difficulties by organising all his apps by pages.
He has 15 pages with some 350 apps distributed appropriately on each.
A detailed step-by-step set of instructions was recently sent to the
FB-Exchange List for anyone who would like to start tidying up their desktop
with folders.
An important thing to remember about deleting apps is to note whether you are
using "delete all" or "delete from home screen".
Ann Marie downloaded Soundscape Community and tried it out. She found it
interesting but it did not give her as much information as she gets from
Blind Square.
ken wondered if the "Dynamic Island" on his new iPhone 16 pro was a useful
feature. Jackie could not find anything other than recent notifications in it
and so did not think it worth the trouble of trying to use it. Here is what
Apple says about this feature:
On iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, you can check alerts and current
activity in progress—such as music that’s playing, your timer, an AirDrop
connection, and directions from Maps—in the Dynamic Island on the Home Screen
or in any app. The Dynamic Island appears whenever your iPhone is unlocked.
https://support.apple.com/en-ie/guide/iphone/iph28f50d10d/iossold old phone.
A heated discussion of the distorted links that appear in messages to the
list caused Jackie to promise that she will find a link to some topic of
interest and write a note in MS. Word, pasting in the link and sending it to
the list to see what results.
The meeting closed on the topic of Smart air Friers. Ken was convinced that
the users needs are simple and the cheapest Air frier was as good as the most
expensive smart one. It was noted that the problem with a smart kitchen
device was that one upgrade could make the smart app on the iPhone
inaccessible to a voiceover user.
The meeting ended.
All the best,
Cearbhall
