Lady W has mounted her horse, side saddle of course, to bring you all through
the drama, tears and technology of the Cork TechClub.
The following people were in attendance:
Ken Walsh, Derry Walsh, Chris Egan, Martha Parkinson, Noreen Meagher, Pat
McCarthy, Jackie McBrearty, Dominique Farrell, Martin Kelly, Cearbhall
O'Meadhra, Paul Griffith and Clare Cassidy.
Paul told us about his new shoes, a bus trip and a pint. This started a
conversation on shoes and different methods to do stuff to them IE blasting a
hairdryer into them, shoving newspaper into them and using a shoe stretcher.
I honestly don't know what started this topic or what the point of it was but
it kept us going. As we didn't hear anything about the bus or pint.
Jackie: kicked off tech talk with the tesco app.When she goes into the app
to make changes to her shop the app has signed her out. Jackie has the
attention span of a fly who constantly bashes itself against a closed
window. Jackie this week alone has changed her tesco password four times, but
she still can't figure out why is she constantly getting signed out. Jackie
got various different things to try so she will be going into keychain and
see is there something banjaxed in here.
When Tesco got a mention Pat asked about the Aldi app and the new bug with
this app. Now for a VO user to check out the deals you first need to switch
off voiceover and then request siri to open Aldi and then turn VO back on.
When siri got mentioned Paul asked that when he is using earphones his hey
siri doesn't work. Paul was told it has to be a special type of earphones
that has hey siri capabilities.
We've now found out Microsoft soundscape will be available at the end of
July. This note taker is distancing herself from a due date of the end of
July 2021. Its a case of watch the app store for further developments. PS
soundscape is a GPS app and not a sleep tracking app.
Martin Kelly was telling us he was having issues receiving emails from the
list. Cearbhall reassured him he was still on the list.
Dominique was praised on the email she posted to various lists describing the
look of the different icons. Dominique got this information from another
email list.
Now back to Martin he was asking about moving apps. This one is for you Mr
Martin Kelly. When you want to move an app you do the following:
1. Take a deep breath.
2. either swipe up or down until you hear edit, double tap at this point.
3. then swipe up or down until you hear drag app, double tap again.
4. swipe until you find where you want to put the dragged app.
5. Swipe up or down and drop the app, double tap yet again.
pressing the home button will stop editing apps or swiping up or down and
stop editing, yet again double tap on stop editing apps.
Ken told us the good news on his battery health improving from 93% to 97%
this was as a result of a bug in the 11 series of phones. Apple sent out a
fix.
Clare told us about getting all her new toys on Monday, she will be getting
an: new iPhone, iPad and a new speaker.
Ken asked Chris about his experience of using the Microsoft support on Be my
eyes. Chris was short and sweet and he told us they got it sorted. Seems we
were all clueless on what the actual issue was Chris explained, that the
shortcut to launch NVDA wouldn't work but now it does so if he presses
control, alt and N he gets NVDA running.
Pat asked clare about something about diabetes so to shorten the story Pat
will post later to the list.
Paul was telling us on how dictation can be hit or miss. we all agreed on how
sometimes it works and other times its easier to type or send a voice
recording.
We all got baffled with a story that Paul and Pat brought up. Both men
mentioned about an app called Sullivan+. Paul told us it was on the cork
(real capital) tech club he had heard of it, none of us could remember this
app or its function. Sullivan+ is an app much like seeing AI. Ken has already
posted a link to the app on the list.
We then spoke about the con calls and how Martha engaged and she informed
them she also worked for the department of social protection. The fake social
protection hung up.
Martha also told us about her new monitored house alarm. We will all be
interested hearing more about this and the potential she has to have a hot
young Garda at her door.
The meeting ended on a discussion on dogs.
