Welcome to the Cork Tech club. Today 11 people joined and participated.
Jackie started us off today telling us about her new phone which is a
samsung galaxy S20 FE. This will be her work phone and she will keep us
updated on her progress on learning to use this android phone. I believe she
is hoping she'll become proficient in using android, she can't see herself
leaving apple any time soon but she's looking forward to the challenge.
Then she also took possession of a olympus digital voice recorder DM-770.
This digital recorder has speech Jackie has learned the basics of this and
she'll report back on it when she learns more as at the moment her focus is
the phone and learning all about that.
Jackie continued with the update to the AIB app. This app now enables a
person transfer money into another AIB account using a mobile number. Jackie
has tested this and its a brilliant feature. It takes a little set up but
its accessible. One only needs to confirm the account and mobile number and
walla its done. Its a much easier way to transfer money rather than using
the IBAN. one thinks they are copying the likes of Revolut but if it makes
transferring money easier we're onboard with that.
Jackie on a roll asked has anyone downloaded windows11 yet. The conversation
continued with her saying her laptop is saying windows11 is ready for
downloading. It will be avoided for as long as possible as she believes if
it ain't broken then don't fix it. Cearbhall advised to not download
windows11 at the moment. A discussion ensued about the best operating
system and it was decided XP ruled all. Windows7 and windows98 were
mentioned as good systems and vista was classed as the mistake.
We discussed different ways of getting virtual support and we all spoke
about jaws Tandem, team viewer, screen sharing and quick assist.
Clare spoke about an issue with not getting a phone call from a person not
in her contacts.
It was suggested to go to settings and phone and ensure this option is off:
Silence Unknown Callers, Off.
Martin asked has anyone loaded Alexa onto their PC. Jackie actually hasn't
done this as she is bad enough. We all talked about what we do with her and
this is what came up: listening to audio books, music, podcasts and radio
stations. We also play games, set reminders, set timers and ask for weather
information. We all love Alexa in the Cork tech club.
Ken spoke about this device, its an air fryer that works with Alexa.
Currently its out of stock on Amazon, but have a look via this link:

Sean was asking about getting Alexa to play The SeaScapes podcast from RTE.
We tried many different ways and asking for the SeaScapes podcast from
either tune in or apple worked. We believe Sean got this to work. Dominique
told Sean how to add this as a bookmark. On the computer do
control shift and O and control D to add it to book marks.
Chris asked had Sean heard of maritime radio, This can also be gotten on
Alexa. I'm just unsure if its the actual radio station or a podcast.
Martin demonstrated his IDMate and we were all impressed. This device
identified items of food. Perhaps Martin can give more details.
The meeting ended with discussions about Ferrero Rocher Chocolate bars,
trying to figure out how to switch Identities in outlook and apple watch
straps.
Lady W had stopped typing at this point.
All have a super Saturday
Lady W
