Welcome one and all to the  cork tech club minutes. We had 10 people requiring hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. So sit back with your mug of  hot chocolate and enjoy the sublime psychedelic notes.

The meeting started with Pat talking about the HSE cyber attack from a few years ago. The discussion continued and in the end Cearbhall Said Pat was right.

Jackie told us about her Heat and Eat Milk Frother. This device makes lovely hot chocolate using milk. Jackie bought it in Home Savers which is B&M in the UK. This is a link for something similar on Amazon

Martin  spoke about  a  talking Air Frier from Cobolt. Its unclear if this can be shipped to  Ireland.

Jackie gave a wee update on the issue with the AIB app and voiceover users being unable to access the cards tab. Jackie received a phone call from AIB  to let her know that this will be prioritised in 2024. So lets  watch this space. It needs to be noted this tab can be accessed if screen recognition is turned on. This needs to b  be turned off once the action has been completed otherwise, it will effect the functionality of voiceover within other apps.

We had a wee discussion on teams and Jackie said about an issue she had during the week. There was  the word link in the subject line so when Jackie attempted to enter on the meeting link it jumped into the subject line. Cearbhall believes it’s a JAWS issue as Ken had no issues with NVDA.

Jackie was also told about a control  space command to mute and unmute. This only worked when the focus was on the mute button however, when Jackie was on things like people, camera etc it activated this. So on windows only stick to control, shift and M least this works once in teams.

Cearbhall said he has tried using the sound scape Scotland app  and he has more testing to do but he’s finding it very good.

We had a extensive discussion on the various different types of scams from the likes of An Post,  phone companies, banks  and delivery companies. The best advice when in doubt delete and never  give personal details.

A vital topic was raised on the accessibility of medications. The different ways people identify their medications and the lack of awareness when the braille is covered with the label.

Stuart was asked about his new phone which is an iPhone 15pro Max, he is quite impressed with the door detection. The recent apple event was recorded using an iPhone 15Pro series of phones. There is hope that the next series of phones will focus more on improving Siri seems they really can’t improve on perfection.

People wanted to know about different methods for deleting on an iPhone. Text selection, tapping and holding was given as options. Ken then gave a example of dictation.

AOB.

Martin and Ger will soon be hitting the stage with sightless  cinema.

Ken is going to post a thing about art classes to the list.

Pat will post a research link for a student who wants experiences of blind and vision impaired in accessing their Pharmacies.

The meeting ended with Lady W loosing all her notes. So some stuff may have been left out.
