 Welcome, welcome, welcome to another addition of the Cork Tech Club Live,
well it was live at the point these notes were taken.
In attendance today we had the following Vampires, people and werewolves Ken
Walsh, Derry Walsh, Chris Egan, Martha Parkinson, Noreen Meagher, Pat
McCarthy, Jackie McBrearty, Dominique Farrell, Martin Kelly, Cearbhall
O'Meadhra, Michael Lorrigan, Paudie Cotterell and Pat Walsh.
We had sorries from Gavin Allman.
Poor wee Jackie started off this morning whimpering and wining about
audible and the fact the site was down late last night and early this
morning. Jackie was getting this message: "HTTP Status 501 - The server
does not support the functionality needed to fulfill this request". Jackie
emailed audible at 3am and they responded with they were working on the
issue. Now why Jackie was awake at 3am is beyond this writers thought
patterns so hence the reference to vampires. Jackie did report the site is
back up and running so she can return to her normal self.
Jackie who appeared to be extremely bored during the week tried something
out with Ken. Jackie sent a voice message using signal but instead of holding
her finger down, she did her double tap but then swiped up and released her
finger. When doing this gesture voiceover stops talking and appears to
freeze. Jackie spoke some words and then double tapped the screen and walla
Ken received the message. It does appear that tapping anywhere on the screen
sends the message. This was tested by fangs and fur members Ken and Jackie.
This is very good as holding ones finger for an extended period of time is
annoying.
We had different discussions on zoom and some of these are confusing and some
really confusing. Firstly, Martin reported back on his zoom thing from last
week. If ye all remember Martin was to test out logging into his access
meeting via the computer. Martin generally joins this meeting using the
telephone number. So Martin's findings were he was unable to log in using the
computer. This writer got very flustered and bamboozled with this story but
needless to say Martin joined the meeting using the phone.
Then Derry has had some issues using zoom, each time its saying he has no
audio. Ken rang him and we got him in. so then the most confusing
conversation occurred and many different things got said on changing
passwords and creating a zoom account. Michael suggested on just creating a
new email address. So fangs and fur members will assist Derry with the zoom
account issue.
Pat walsh was asking about the android platform. This query was for a friend
of his. Pat was directed to Declan so he could answer android questions.
Then Pat is interested in purchasing a Giraffe. This is a stand not the
animal. Cearbhall directed him to contact the NCBI and they may be able to
source it for him from the RNIB. Pat wants to scan books and stor them on his
phone.
Pat was on a roll when he was asking about silencing jaws, he knows about the
insert, space and the letter S. someone told him about insert F4 but Martha
said this was to unload jaws. Pat will stick to the insert, space and letter
S.
We had a long chat about the sophisticated and nonSophisticated methods
scammers use to part you with your cash and freedom. The vital thing to
remember don't click on links or give any personal information.
The accessibility of banks came up and Pat is going to post to this list
telephone numbers for the various banks.
Both Ken and Chris spoke of their positive experiences using "be my eyes' Ken
used the general help as he had an issue posting multiple photos to
Instagram. Once he selected more than one photo another photo was unselected.
The person he spoke to got it sorted as she could see another button that
voiceover wasn't picking up. This person even signed into her own Insagram
account to check things out for him.
Then Chris wanted to connect a bluetooth speaker to his laptop in the cave.
Chris contacted Microsoft support who told him he'd need a dongle type thing
to make the connection. So Chris may look at purchasing something in the near
future.
Martha told us all about her new roll at work. It all sounds very interesting
as she'll be using Chrome and one note. We look forward to hearing how she's
getting on with this in the weeks and months to come.
The meeting ended with everyone being wiser and confused. So it was all good.
