The meeting began with a wee chat about our Christmas holidays. It was
decided to have our meeting next Saturday the 18th this will be the last one
of 2021 and we'll be back in the new year.
Now into tech talk:
Derry had issues with opening the results of the fighting blindness email
about the results of the election. Pat explained to go from the bottom of the
email and swipe up and duble tap on the attachment and double tap to open it.
Jackie said she also did the same and she had no issue reading it.
Cearbhall's iPhone is acting weird. Voiceover was not responding a number of
suggestions were made like a three finger double tap or call up siri.
Cearbhall was trying all this while he was on the group and VO would speak
and then stop talking. Ken suggested for someone to ring cearbhall,Paul
didd this and VO still wasn't responding so in the end Cearbhall decided to
ring apple support as this was a strange issue with a million answers. So
good luck Cearbhall on this issue and hopefully you'll get it sorted fairly
easy with apple support.
Chris was asking about siri working off line and none of us could figure out
how this is meant to work. No one has had success using this new feature on
IOS15.
Clare told us about her watch has gone back as there was an issue with it. So
we hope Clare will get it back soon. Pat said apple is very good at
replacing or repairing the devices.
Stuart reported back on a test he carried out during the week on a teams
meeting. When in a teams meeting Stuart did a two finger double tap and
instead of muting him it knocked him out of the meeting. on zoom a two finger
double tap mutes and unmutes but teams you go bye bye.
Clare loves taking photos with her iPhone. This started a conversation on us
blindies taking photos and Jackie said she has no issue taking photos to post
to social media once she gets her sister to ensure the photo looks good and
it hasn't captured something it shouldn't have.
Cearbhall was asking did any of us use NVDA as he spoke about the new OCR
now in NVDA. Cearbhall did post this to FB exchange earlier in the week.
We started speaking about VO pronouncing words strangely This is the process
to do a text replacement:
1. open settings.
2. go to accessibility.
3. then double tap on voiceover.
4. then go to speech.
5. look for pronunciation.
once in here phonetically spell how you want the word to sound. Ensure you
have Languages, All.
Jackie and Martin spoke about testing the My NCBI smart skill. This alexa
skill is in beta testing right now. Martin and Jackie both echoed it is
looking very promising and they look forward to see how it develops in the
future. Its showing allot of promise so far and Jackie is quite positive with
the whole thing.
It wouldn't be a cork meeting if soundscape didn't get a mention. Chris was
saying how he likes the new way points. Jackie is still blindSquares number
one fan as she finds it much more trust worthy when one takes a wrong turn.
BlindSquare also seems to use a better mapping source unlike soundscape.
The meeting ended.
