Welcome back to the Cork TechClub. Come inside for the trials, Technology and
tribulations of all members. This morning we had 11 Happy members eager to
start a new year.
We had apologies.
Firstly, Lady W wants to wish everyone a very Happy and Peaceful 2024.
We started this morning with a short discussion on how our Christmas went.
There was no need for the Gardaí or getting fitted for prison uniforms among
this mornings members so that counts as a good Christmas.
The conversation started today about the accessibility of banking apps. A few
of us spoke of our various negative experiences of using banking apps on IOS
and Android. The banks did not come out well as everyone shared their
experiences using the apps.
Ger helped Helen with the select to speak using android. Select to speak is
a tool on Android that reads out highlighted text, this works even if talk back
is not enabled. To enable this feature go to Settings, accessibility and select
to speak.
Jackie told us all about a weirdness with her Amazon app. When she went
into it last night it had signed her out. When she went to sign in a warning
came up that said "This password is being used for other websites please change
your password" Jackie could not cancel this and had to proceed and change her
password. There was an OTP (one time password) sent to her email address.
Jackie changed her password and them panicked and changed it twice more. When
changing passwords on amazon one has to sign back into : audible, kindle, alexa
and amazon music. Adrian believed it was more Jackie's phone security than
Amazon that triggered this alert.
Ger had an issue with Whatsapp and that on his Android it defaults to calling
them on Whatsapp. At this point the postman came so one had to mute and deal
with him. The whatsapp issue continued for a while with Paul also sharing he
has some issues with calling people, he also has issues when siri sends a
message it will now only read only one or two words. the members felt this was
an issue after an update and go into siri settings and check his settings, as
its now possible just to automatically send messages without reviewing them.
Jackie came back so her alter ego could continue the notes.
Jackie bought curling Iron Tong gloves on amazon. Joanne told Jackie about
these and they were also recommended by another person on a blindy group. These
gloves are just like normal gloves and the same thickness. Jackie is hoping
these will be handier to use removing her silicone trays from her air frier.
Joanne said people use them when ironing as well. Jackie will report back on
how good they are, she is hoping they work as regular oven gloves makes it
difficult to grip the trays in an air frier. This is the link of the gloves.
when buying them its best to buy two as you only get one glove. The glove can
work in either the left or right hand.

Ken congratulated Cearbhall for joining Revolut. Cearbhall got some help to
sign up as the only tricky part is the picture taking. Currently at the moment
Cearbhall doesn't have the card and is using it on his phone. Adrian told him
how to add a virtual card onto his wallet. Those of us that have revolut loves
it, the app is workable but can be a wee bit difficult at times with voiceover.
Lady W dropped out at this point as she got a phone call.
The conversation continued with everyone praising Jackie and agreeing to pay
money in a monthly bases into her revolute account. This is getting done to aid
the members to practise doing this task on the IOS and Android Revolute apps.
