Cork technology meeting notes 8th April 2023
Good morning everyone on this easter weekend, It Is me again the note taker
here to provide you the summary of the antics that took place during this
weeks cork technology meeting. So sit back and enjoy the read.
8 participants
A number of people showed up early as usual for the meeting. They talked
about such interesting topics as the weather and politics. The group was
wondering how many would be at the meeting this week. The members who were
there today also talked about rugby for a while, some members listened to it
recently on news talk and RTE. some commentators are a lot better then
others. The radio is always ahead when it comes to sports. There was
apparently news about a storm coming on Tuesday night next week. Someone
tried to play an April fools joke telling the group it was a hurricane.
the person who developed soundscape is planning to develop a new app which
is an close relation to soundscape. This generated a fair bit of discussion.
Ken told the group about a horrible issue that happened to him during the
week. He lost a fair bit of money from his bank account. He was given no
security notice that three transactions were done. He launched a complaint
with his bank he was very annoyed that he didn’t get a notification that
someone was taking out large amounts from his bank. We really hope he is
able to get his money back. Cearbhall suggested having a separate account
with small amounts of money in the future for online shopping, ken said he
is going to start using Revolute in the future.
Cearbhall said he tried the connect clip during the week, it is a device for
his hearing aid. You give it to someone else and you are able to hear them a
lot clearer in a pub or restaurant for example. He found that it had a bug
that caused it to drop connection, it is a frequent bug according to a
number of people online. He did like it over all he is looking forward to
giving it a lot more testing in the future. To fix that bug you need to
restart it.
Ger asked about the find my phone app on the android. He had the issue that
he dropped his phone and could not find it. The group was not sure how it
would work on an android. Joanne said you may have to download the find my
app. and link it to someone’s phone and track it that way. This led to a
conversation about how big some phones are to carry in pockets, the group
was told they need to get man bags to carry them.
Ken asked about the super value app, he had a voucher he wanted to use, but
the app would not open in the shop, it kept saying loading. He was wondering
if anyone had that issue. No one had had that issue. Ger asked if he had
accidentally set it to wi fi only, ken said he was not sure he would give
that a look. He finds the duns store app works fine. He tried it on mobile
data during the meeting, he had no luck. He tried checking the settings
during the meeting to check if he had mobile data turned on for the app but
had no luck. Cearbhall suggested connecting to super value’s wi fi to get
into the app possibly. It was also suggested he may have to delete and re
instal it to fix the issue.
Cearbhall brought up the recent e-mail sent to the FB list that is looking
for old canes to donate if anyone is interested to donate. The e-mail was
sent this week.
Joanne told the group she got a new echo show, she is very happy with it.
They were on special offer last week. The group asked her a number of
questions about it. Joanne told us about the feature that identifies
products that you hold up to the screen like seeing AI, it has a touch
screen that uses gestures similar to an I pad, to activate voice view on it
just ask Alexa. To turn it on. Joanne said she thinks it would be more
suited to people with more sight.
Paul said he had an issue during the week, he had two vouchers he went to
the shop to use them, the voucher did not work for him. He eventually
determined that the person taking the vouchers needed to clear the terminal.
The group talked about the many times they went out with two od coloured
shoes in public as well for a while. Close pegs came up here for some reason.
Chris had an issue with audible, his book kept restarting the book he was
listening to. He was not happy. This apparently occurred when he had a phone
call. Joanne maybe suggested pausing the book on his phone instead of his
headset. The group tried to provide a number of different solutions. One of
them was maybe to ask Siri to pause the book. Paul asked Siri to turn off
his phone last night but it did not work.
Cearbhall said he could not get a new book to play on audible last night.
The group asked if it was downloaded. Ken said to control the book from the
mini player. It took him a while to get it working. The group told him how
to make sure the book was downloaded.
Joanne asked if you download a book to audible from Alexa would it appear in
your audible library in your phone. The group was fairly sure that it would.
Chris said you would still need to download it to your phone. if you
purchased it on Alexa. The group discussed-about different features of Alexa
such as amazon music and using it in different rooms etc. the group talked
about their preferred situation to listen to audio books whether it was
working or doing nothing else at the time.
Cearbhall said he had to sign into zoom this morning he is still having an
issue wherein voice over will not read what he is typing into the email or
password fields. Copying and pasting is not available as a solution, voice
over does not give him the option.
Joanne asked ken if he downloaded the clip speak update for NVDA, he had not
done it. Her computer if constantly asking her to update. She finds this to
be quite annoying as it has been happening for the last 3 weeks. Cearbhall
the NVDA expert provided her a solution to it..
There will be no meeting this Monday for anyone who did not know.
The meeting broke up at this point. I hope that everyone has a very happy
easter weekend and that you enjoyed the read.
Don’t eat to much chocolate
Regards
The notetaker.
