Welcome to a very strange addition of the CorkTech club. Lady W has taken
these notes to the best of her ability. So come on board our magic bus and
enjoy the ride.
The following passengers were on board, social distancing was observed. Ken
Walsh, Derry Walsh, Chris Egan, Noreen Meagher, Pat McCarthy, Jackie
McBrearty, Martin Kelly, Stuart Haxell, Dominique Farrell, Cearbhall
O'Meadhra, John Chambers, Paul Griffith. IOS15 featured strongly so for
the benefit of tidiness I'm going to put them all together.
Dominique: said she was well impressed with the new weather app. The precise
timing for rain and when to put on factor 30. We all agreed that chances are
the rain predictions will nearly always be right seems its always raining in
Ireland.
In IOS 15 there is meant to be a follow up mode with Siri. We all found out
about Alexa's follow up mode. Ken tried many many different ways to get
Siri's follow up mode to work but we had no success However, we did find out
the lead singer of U2 is Bono and he is 61 years old.
Ken said he doesn't like the new layout of Safari, Stuart said he agreed and
then a discussion happened around the search bar and how the wording has
changed from clear to Cancel, well I think this is what it changed to. Its
also possible now to search with your voice.
Paul with an iPhone 7 and Noreen with an iPhone8 both asked should they
update to IOS15 it was echoed by many people not to update as many of the
features were not available on their devices.
Dominique told us about how she lost €6 in credit using soundscape. We all
said that perhaps she ran out of data and this was the reason for the charge.
Ken and Jackie said they can't get with the hype of soundscape neither of
them were bouncing up and down in their seats. Jackie is still BlindSquares
number one fan. Cearbhall dared say it didn't work great for him in
Carlingford, Jackie became quite defensive and John came to her rescue by
saying Carlingford is very complicated to get around, so BlindSquare worked
well for the tools it had at its disposal.
Martin asked about using a friends Samsung tablet. We called upon our android
expert John and he directed Martin's friend to go to: settings accessibility
and turn on talk back. John explained much like turning on voiceover on an
apple device the gestures change.
Martin asked who was getting involved in the NCBI hub. Jackie and Martin
explained when this skill becomes active a person will be able to interact
with NCBI services by using Alexa or the google devices. This is still a
work in progress.
Martin asked Jackie about her update with Bank of Ireland app. Jackie's
update was she had no update. This is also a work in progress and she vowed
to keep us updated.
Cearbhall explained to us his difficulty dictating into the native Calendar
app. after allot of theories we discovered Cearbhall was using direct touch
typing. We urged Cearbhall to go into: Settings accessibility, voiceover,
typing and ensure this is standard typing. We were all guessing on the
differences between touch typing and direct touch typing. Cearbhall with
the encouragement from Dominique will research the differences between both
typing styles. The research master will post his findings to the list.
Paul was enquiring about the wheels on the bus. Paul wanted us to all start
singing it. Paul told us how he asked Alexa to play it and it used to play a
better version of it so Jackie suggested to try the wiggles version but this
simply wasn't catchy enough for Paul. Jackie enjoys the music by the wiggles
there version of "I'm a little teapot" is mighty. so after death metal and
their version of old McDonalds farm got discussed we found the song loved by
Paul and we all began to sing along with Cedarmont kids.
I'm off to lay down in a darkened room and recover.
