Welcome to another installment of the Cork Tech Club. Lady W will bring you
through the antics of this mornings trauma's.
There was 11 little duckies in attendance.
This mornings discussion started with "what are QR codes" Many different views
were shared and Lady W began to howl and stamp her paws very loudly. So a QR
codeBasically, is an image that when scanned can perform an action. They are
usually square and contain lots of jumbled up black and white squares and
lines. They can contain text, such as URLs or passwords, so that this info can
be accessed when scanned. QR codes are now becoming part of the mainstream.
Now onto normal programming.
Jackie reported on this list during the week an update to her Alexa app caused
it to crash. Jackie deleted the app and it was sorted. Ken did the new update
and his was sorted. Cearbhall was asking about updating apps, we figured out he
had automatic updates on so he was directed to settings and app store to turn
it off. As automatically updating apps could cause issues if there is an
accessibility bug. Manually updating is better at least you can just not
bother updating an app if you so choose.
Dating apps were briefly mentioned. It had been suggested by quite a few
anonymous eager members, that we should start our own version of blind date.
QR codes could be used to get the information on each person, We would ensure
the QR code was easy accessed and accessible for each user.
Ger shared with us that the rotor only works on android when talkback is on.
Ger also shared that auto fill wouldn't work for him on a Microsoft form. QR
codes can also be used to open a form.
Cearbhall told us about the issue with entering email addresses into zoom.
There is no audio feedback with voiceover, this makes it difficult to know if
text is getting entered. We talked cearbhall through adding a password to the
keychain and hopefully this will solve the issue. QR codes could also be used
in situations like this.
Ken spoke about a message he received from apple wallet this week. The message
asked him to click on a link and update his card information. This seemed like
a very clever scam. Then everyone spoke of various sophisticated scams out
there from the likes of"An Post, AIB bank, BOI, TSB etc etc.
Joanne asked about using apple pay. Allot of advice was given but we ended up
saying to try it out in a shop and report back. Jackie uses apple pay for Just
Eat.
Ger was asking about should he get an iPad or Laptop. Poor Ger was given many
many different options that was way too long to take down. To shorten the
story we said ask his local tech guy to see different options for technology
thats available and see what works for him.
Ken was asking about his iCloud backups. This discussion went over and back and
over and back and in the end it was suggested to pay €0.99 and get the extra
storage.
Cearbhall told us Chat GPT is maxed out. There is a payment option but one must
move to somewhere in America.
I'm off now to bite the head off a bunny.
All have a good Saturday.
