Bank Holiday Monday called for a relaxed meeting in a holiday atmosphere.
Martin was happily celebrating the comfort and convenience of his washing
machines and its ease of use. Noreen joined in with the joys and reliability
of her Bosch washing machine with its audio bleeps for confirmation.
Bert drew our attention to Apple's new approach to music production with a
process called "Lossless". This a move away from mp4 as an audio form.
Jonathan Mosen has an excellent podcast on this topic in the latest episode
of "Mosen at Large".
In the follow-up discussion, two podcast players were recommended: "Overcast"
a podcast app that will run on the iPhone and "Anypod" on Alexa.
As this is a new concept, everyone was wondering What "Lossless audio
compression" is. Most audio compression techniques lose some amount of data
contained in the original source file. Lossless compression is a form of
compression that preserves all of the original data. Apple has developed its
own lossless audio compression technology called Apple Lossless Audio Codec
(ALAC).

Bob was looking for a way to prevent outsiders from sending unwanted messages
to him through WhatsApp. Bert recommended that he could do this, to a limited
extent, in settings. As there are quite a few options for blocking people,

Vera pointed out that the new terms and conditions of WhatsApp include a rule
that messages are now removed from WhatsApp after a few days in accordance
with Data Protection.
The summer is here and the days are fine. Dublin city and all other major
cities around Ireland are opening up and outdoor dining is about to happen.
Dublin, Cork, Galway and limerick are all preparing to close streets to make
outdoor dining possible during the dying days of the pandemic. In Dublin, Ely
Place, Hume street, and Merrion row will be closed to traffic with tables and
chairs set out in the middle of the streets. This will be a potential
nightmare for long cane users.
Tom told us about Coole Park, the former home of Lady Gregory, which he finds
to be very accessible with acres of woodlands, parks, lakes dining and museum
attractions. Plenty of features are supported with audio description.
Martin and Bert attended the online Work Age Forum in the last few weeks.
There were excellent speakers including Brian Rothery, Blind reporter, and
compere, Stuart Lawlor.
This led to a review of the many successful visually impaired individual who
have appeared on stage, radio and television over recent times. Some had been
DJs in pirate radio in the 1980's and can be heard on www.pirates.ie
The meeting became even more relaxed and ended quietly.
