Will do my best here - the memory is not what it used to be!
There was some drama at start of meeting when participants encountered some
difficulty getting into the meeting - headphones, wifi and hand wringing all
contributed to the general confusion. When calm descended Cearbhall
explained his difficulty with the non-compatibility of the zoom and
headphones volume. It did resolve at some point but he is not clear how.
Gremlins maybe?
Tom wanted to know if he should let his ex wifi supplier know he is leaving
them to take up with Sky who are offering an much improved service for
persond with disabilities, particularly for blind users as they have an
inbuilt voiceover facility. Tom was advised to inform his ex by mail to be
sure there would be no future billing. He was also advised too to make
sure the Sky technician activated the voiceover feature when installing the
system.
Eamonn wanted to know about the usefulness of Password manager. Declan
explained he did not think it was very accessible to blind users. Martin
advised there had been a discussion on the NCBI webinar which might be of
some benefit. Eamonn is going to do some investigating and come back to us
with recommendations (hopefully this is correct)
Cearbhall told us about the very simplified mobile phone for the
extraordinary price of 35 euro (can't find the euro key). Iti is called
'artfone cs182 and is available from Amazone. Other phones mentioned are
Doro andaround 120 euro and Blindshell for 300 euro.
There followed a discussion about Jamulus and the difficulty of Jaws reading
some frames. Anumber of suggestions were forthcoming and will be explored
in the coming weeks Jamulus is a open source software for musicians and
singers and not designed for vision impaired users and hence the difficulty
for screen reader users.
Also, I will send out the link later on for the Visionaries virtual
concert. It takes place on Saturday from 10.30 to 12.30.
By the way, we are always looking for new members - only requirement is a
vision impairment!.
A very compli
cated discussion took place around pc cursors and virtual cursors. I am not
even going to attempt document it as I don't come close to understanding it.
You will have to join in next week to get clarity from the experts.
