Mary kicked off the discussion by introducing us to her new guide dog,
called Dixie.

Whilst training with her new dog, in Cork at the Guide dog centre, Mary
tried using her NaviLens app.
She downloaded the Navi lens app to her smart phone, and went into their
website.
Here she ordered their paper which had the qr codes embedded. .
In Cork she put one of the paper on her bedroom door, saying bedroom.
Other stickers with different qr codes were put on the main door out and
coming in after training.
Her camera picked up the codes from about 10 to 15 metres.
She said that this was very good and very helpful.
Perhaps the Irish Guide Dogs organisation will consider using them as well.
Of course nobody else would benefit from Mary's paper codes as each person
must get their own Navi lens app and do the same thing as Mary.
It's a great idea and one can see how useful this could be in other
situations. When your camera picks up the code, a noise or bleep comes on
and gets louder as you approach the sticker.
The thorny topic of silent electric scooters and cars came up for
discussion by Tom.
Tom wondered how blind or vision impaired people were supposed to manage
avoiding these vehicles.
Paul said that in Europe, these electric cars were required to fit a
advanced noise detector, not sure that this is what they are called.
But a gadget is fitted to the car which emits a noise when travelling at a
much reduced speed, giving vision impaired people some warning.
Cearbhall told us of using Chat GPT.
This is a new AI product where one can download the app, and go to an edit
field called the Command line , and for instance,
Submit some half written notes and comments on a meeting, and ask chat GPT,
to write the minutes for the meeting.
This looks like a retirement package for me!
Vera wondered how to create an icon on her desktop for Zoom.
Put in ZOOM THEN LEAVE A SPACE AND PUT IN A HYPHEN THEN TYPE ONE AND THEN
TYPE GO TO PLATFORM TO CONNECT.
Some more talk on OPEN OFFICE, this is an open source version of OFFICE
365, and costs nothing.
