Hello Folks, First a big thanks to Stuart for his wonderful account of
last Monday's meeting.
There were 10 Participants for today's meeting.
Hope these notes will keep you interested and warm, as we head into a week
of artic weather!
First of all
Commiserations to our Fighting Blindness choir, who just fell short in the
Choir competition at the Helix Theatre in DCU . University.
Well done to all members of the choir in coming 4th out of 18 choirs.
We had a great contribution from Bob. His brother is hard of hearing, and
Bob has an app on his android phone which allows him to chat with his
brother and as he is chatting, a copy of what he is saying appears on his
brothers screen.
Knowing Bob as I do this is a brilliant app, and he will tell all of us
during the week, the name of the app.
Bob also had problems in reading a very long word document using NVDA.
It would read the first paragraph, then the next few paragraphs, would be
silent, and then NVDA would start reading again.
He finally found a solution using the Insert key with the number 7 on the
numbers pad.
Well done Bob
Tom wanted to know what the app Chat GBT was good for,
It seems that this is an AI app, and can answer questions on a multitude
of topics.
The ARTIFICIAL Intelligence keeps growing and Cearbhall says that there is
a great AI, voice which is nearly as good as the best human voice, that one
can use. For reading books.
There was more talk of Microsoft withdrawing support for their wonderful
Sound scape app, which will be missed by hundreds of mobility users.

and asking them to reconsider this move.
Hopefully a good number of vision impaired users will also send mails to
them , to urge them to reconsider their decision.
Eamon is trying to get rid of some videos in several folders on his I
Phone 8 which he has attached to his desktop computer.
The desktop won't allow him to get rid of any videos, Cearbhall thinks that
this is a right's issue.
It could be administration rights for the desktop or even for the iPhone.
More talk on smart meters, Cearbhall told Vera, that when one has the smart
meter installed at home, if they go to the app store, and downloadthe the
same name as the smart meter at home, that Voice Over will read the meter
for the visually impaired person.
We have a great wealth of knowledge at these meeting, as Paul found out at
the weekend.
Paul has a very long number of podcasts, called a history of rock n roll
through 500 songs.
But Paul had a problem in playing the podcasts sequentially.
He contacted Jackie who found a solution, by going to a menu and using the
search button , she was able to find Episodes , BY TYPING episode then
leaving a space and entering in a number for a particular episode.
This has worked for Paul, and he has listened to 15 episodes already, only a
another 200 programmes to go !.
