Martha,
Zoom is available if Cork wishes to use it. However, Jackie and Ken tried out
Facebook's Messenger last week with equal success to today's experience with
Zoom. So, why not give Messenger a try and share the experience with the list
so we all have knowledge of two good systems!
All the best,
Cearbhall

Apologies: Paul Griffith.
This was an inaugural virtual exchange club meeting using the Zoom
app. This online meeting was required since the premises in Ely Place
was closed because of the Corona viru.
Overall the reception using Zoom was excellent; those present were
using a mixture of the IOS and Android operating systems as well as
Windows 10 platforms.
Nobody joined using a landline. Cearbhall did advise though that if
you were using a landline that you should be aware that a fairly
expensive toll is charged per minute after 59 minutes on a call. So
after this time has elapsed, just hang up and re-dial.
It was strongly advised to be aware that if you have a phone plan
where you are paying for data usage, you should ensure that you were
joining a meeting using wifi rather than using your data.
At the start we discussed issues pertaining to Zoom - mainly regarding
the audio muting on the Android platform; if you self mute and then
you unmute and should you remain silent for a certain period of time
the Android system will automatically mute you. Those using the
Windows and IOS platforms didn't experience this.
Bert mentioned that his Surface Pro2 loses focus. Stuart suggested
trying to turn off the touch screen feature.
Eamonn asked about Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials.
Declan advised that these automatically update and there isn't any
need to carry out a virus scan or to manually update these. Once you
have the most up-to-date web viewer you should have no worries about viral
attack.
Bert advised that when using Windows 10 you should ensure that when
using Windows Explorer you should be pointing your explorer to This PC
rather than to the Quick Access option. To ensure that you are
pointing at This PC go to the start menue edit box with Windows S and
enter "folders". Press enter and you should hear File Explorer
General; down arrow to This PC and press enter and that will in future
allow you to check files and documents on your PC when pressing the file
explorer keys Windows E.
Eamonn asked if anyone knew could icons be labelled using JAWS in the
Software Defined Radio application. Declan felt that this might be
difficult to achieve.
Joe Murphy asked how to use Apple Pay. Stuart explained that you
should point your iphone at the screen beside the card reader at the
till; press the power button twice which authorises Apple Pay to make
the payment using your facial identity. Your receipt will appear in the
Wallet icon.
Bert mentioned that with the latest version of IOS you can create your
own gestures for things like the rotor and the virtual home button.
All in all today was a great success and this is one up for the fight
against the virus and its attempt to keeping us isolated.
Thanks to Stuart, Declan and Cearbhall for the work they have done on
setting up Zoom for our use. Since the meeting is set up as a
recurring event, the link you used this morning should allow you to
join the meeting next week also. If anyone has any problem with Zoom
just contact this mailing list and the lads will sort you out.
Regards,
Michael
