Cearbhall, great notes. The Monday meetings are very useful, as I could
not ask my daughter how my grand child Daisy was getting on in Kerry, but
Siri, would dictate the message and beside Her name Daisy was (fresh flowers
fresh flowers) !!
Jackie solved the problem by telling me to add Daisy's name to my
contacts.
This solved the problem.

Enjoying the wonderful sunshine, everyone gathered to share the latest
technology. Both Martin and tom had a shock to find how hot their phone got
when lying in the sun. They warned that the phone should be kept covered
with a cloth or in the shade to prevent overheating.
Tom uses the Aeropex After Shokz Bluetooth headphones. His iPhone sometimes
freezes so that his only recourse is to restart the phone to regain control.
Cearbhall reflected a similar issue in that he finds that typing on his
Bluetooth keyboard is sluggish while After Shoks is in use. He switched over
to the Bose Bluetooth headset during the meeting and the sluggishness went
away immediately. Bert had a similar experience, again with After Shokz,
while typing. He stressed that the After Shokz is one of the best headsets
for audio while listening to phone or radio and highly recommended for that
purpose. Could it be that there is some sort of processing in the After
Shokz relating to how it functions that is causing this effect on typing and
screen movements?
Tom wondered how the iPhone 8 compares with the iPhone 11 or 12.
Joe is using the iPhone 11. He acknowledged that many people don't like to
lose the home button. He quickly adapted to looking for the strong
vibration at the bottom of the screen and a stroke up or sideways to
activate the Home button function. Bert agreed and pointed out that some
phones permit a tap on the back of the casing to activate the home button.
He encouraged everyone to keep their equipment up to date and not to be put
off by the need to learn new techniques to move forward with the technology.
Vera has some sight and likes the iPhone 12XR because she is able to magnify
items that are difficult to see with the stronger zoom function that this
phone makes available. The zoom was not as efficient in the earlier models.
Bert suggested practising the use of a new phone without a SIM card until
its is more familiar and only then switching over from the old phone.
John was having trouble answering a call on his iPhone. He has to extract
the phone from its cover when a call comes in. He wondered if he might be
touching something by accident that prevented him from answering despite his
careful use of the two-finger double-tap gesture. After many suggestions
from the others present, he agreed to try out a few options. After the
meeting, he and his wife found that the one-finger double tap activated the
answer button for him and now he is happy that he can, at least, answer the
phone.
Bert shared a novel solution to an annoying habit of Siri to misname people
inappropriately. He found that when referring to a person named "Daisy",
Siri would announce: "... Daisy Flower"! He and Jackie found that opening
contacts and adding a new contact with the name in question, in this case
Daisy, and no other details or numbers, Siri used the correct form of the
name.
Martin urged members to support the forthcoming "Hugh Lane Gallery Audio
Description Tour taking place tomorrow, Tuesday 20th July at 12pm.
Bert gave Eamonn the steps to move items to different locations on the
Voiceover rotor. by opening Disability>settings>voiceover>rotor and moving
down through the list of items available, swipe to "reorder" and swipe up or
down with one finger to move the item up or down the rotor.
Annette found that she lost all her messages when trying to delete only one
of them. While on the offending message, she pressed down arrow and found
"Delete all" so took this to refer only to her message. The result was that
everything was deleted and she now has no messages - even those which she
wanted to keep! his puzzled everyone and so Annette said she would contact
Apple Accessibility and see if the answer could be found.
As more and more people are receiving their Covid-19 vaccination certificate
in hardcopy, or email, all were wondering how to retain the certificate for
best usage. Opinions varied as to what to do and so it was agreed to
investigate the procedure and report to the next meeting.
