November 23rd meeting
In Attendance:

2 Cearbhall O’Meadhra
3 Paul Griffith
4 Joan Kearns
5 Martha Parkinson
6 Tom Langan
7 Mary Lavelle
8 Michael Brown
9 Annette McCarthy
10 Albert Brown
11Eamonn O’Connor
12 Noreen Meagher
13 Martin Kelly
Mary had a problem in logging onto Zoom this morning.
She was using her Iphone 11 and could not join the meeting. Finally she
resorted to using Declan’s E- mail to access the numbers, and finally get
into the meeting.
Paul said that most people get in by going to the History section which
stores all the different meetings one does, and click on the meeting you
want to attend, and you get straight into the .
waiting room.
Mary has a problem with Dropbox, she is getting the message that her box is
full. Her Dropbox app contains mainly MP3 audio files belonging to her
choir practice, and she has the option to increase her Dropbox storage by
paying an annual fee of around 128€.
She wanted to know if she could save her a audio files onto Dream reader app?
Jackie /Bert suggested that she use the file app on her Iphone 11 to save
audio files. For 99centsper month she can get around 50gb of memory and she
could save her audio files onto her File app (native app) ).
These extra gigs of memory are added to her I cloud memory. #
Others suggested Google Drive, but Bert said that this was very unaccessible.
Cearbhall also stated that with a second E-mail account, she could have a
second Dropbox account.
Mary wanted to close her Fighting Blindness e mail account, but Jackie warned
against this as she could loose some of her contacts.
Jackie who is turning her house into the Gadjet shop, is expecting her
Amazon fire tablet this Friday, and we look forward to a tutorial from her
after a few days.
Mr Martin Kelly informed the group that the voice on the fire tablet is voice
view.
Joan visited the iConnect shop in Henry street, to view the new range of
iPhone 12’s.
Bert /mary/Jackie told Paul/Joan that although there is no home button
theiPHONES 11 AND 12, voice over is put on by tapping the power button three
times and this engages the facility of voice over.
Bert has got a Santa Clauspresent but cannot access until Christmas day,
And we look forward to a tutorial from Bert on the workings of the iPhone 12,
And from Joan, if she gets lucky this Christmas.
Michael Brown wanted to know how the people knew that one was blind to get
their vat back,
Paul explained that the revenue know your tax affaires, and can see your
blind allowances.
Paul explained that an invoice is not good enough to scan to revenue,
You must have a clear receipt showing that the invoice amount was paid in
full.
Paul was looking for information on those apps that can control your central
heating remotely,
And got information on Nest (not tood good according to Jackie/Bert)and the
much better app called Hive.. You can buy Hive in a local hardware shop and
with a good electrician one can be up and running in no time.
Martha told us that she is getting a smart meter, and because her meter
reading is in her home and not outside, she wont get any visits from the
meter reading person.
Athis juncture Michael Brown said that the talking smart meters will not be
available here for about 2 years.
Jackie told us about her Buzz clip walking device, she said that it was not
good, you would need several of these on your person, and
This could prove to be a distraction while walking. It would be better to
have a blind person try out Buzz clip with a long cane , and not a guide
dog.
Rum her wonderful guide dog took Jackie around those difficult stree
furniture and so the Buzz clip did not vibrate a warning.
Buzz Clip does not warn about holes or half open manhole covers or pavement
edges so is very limited in its use, perhaps its better inside a building.
Jackie reported a bug on Face book, some groups have a Q and A
session, but the vip person cannot read the questions, But can only see the
answeres and comments.
Paul was disappointed that no Cork people were at todays meeting, Wonder
why!!!
Jackie was there as she told Paul earlier in the
week, that Donegal were too cocky!
Paul told the meeting that his family all came originally from Tipperary.
Regards Paul
