Cearbhall was having trouble with his microphone/headset, and is looking into
the problems.
Marian Murray, is thinking of joining us in the exchange club by purchasing
an iPhone.
She is worried that she wont be able to manage a smart phone. All assured her
that she could do this after a little learning curve. Offer of help was
forthcoming from Martin,
And she can add my name to the list of people wishing to help her with learning
the various gestures for her iPhone.
We learned more about the strange and wonderful
life of Lady Jackie,
She purchased a Amazon Fire Tablet, and has over 900 books on it!!!
She has just finished a book titled animals saved my life by the super vet
Noel Fitzpatrick.
She can order her books using Alexa after voice purchase was enabled.
Mary has ordered something to help Jamulus software to work with Jaws. Its
probably another sound card according to Albert and Cearbhall.
Martin introduced us to The Texan blind group singing a ditty about Jaws in
the Rap style, Declan found the video on U Tube, and shared the song on screen
share with us.
Well done Martin for spotting this gem.
Joe wanted to know if he could delete text and audio files from his Voice Dream
Reader.
Albert said yes, , just get the file he wants to delete and do a one finger
up swipe to the delete button. He can also create folders on the app, and
store audio files/text files there also.
Bert says that the Iccloud is very inaccessible, and this is disappointing to
voice over users.
Cearbhall is also having trouble with his iPhone 7, bert suggested he do a
reboot, by pressing the volume down button at the same time as the power
button.
This clears the cache memory.
Bert also stated that he could close the Bluetooth down and open again later.
Bert who was in fine form also said that to test the speed of your internet
connection,
Go to www.speedtest.net <http://www.speedtest.net> . The will inform you of
various things like the speed of your internet connection,
By pressing the letter B for buttons, one can find out a myriad of
information on your connection.
Michael Brown told us that the speed test app is available from the app store.
After checking the speed of your internet, if you think that its too slow, you
can ring your service provider to check what your speed should be.
Michael also had done a lot of work for Paul and members regarding the things
that Hive can do, like putting on and off your heating,
And if you have the Hive Hub, you can also control your lights and other
household machines.
He has a friend in the North who is a vip, living alone, and he can control
most machines/devices remotely by using the Hive HUB.
This includes controlling Thermostats as well.
Martha is moving into her newly renovated house, and confirms that she does not
have Hive, but has something similar called Ember, and it looks like it is
Visually impaired friendly, but may need a few buttons labelled.
Martin asked how you get the Fire tablet to talk, Jackie said
press down the power button
three times, and the voice comes on.
The tablet cost Lady Jackie a modest 60€
Jackie also brought our attention to a great tutorial utube channel, called
bling line.
Here you will find many great ideas on how to do a multitude of things like
making your own video.
Noreen who rises at 8.30am!!
And walks aroung her house wanted to know , if there is a way to know if the
lights are on in her house.
Paul suggested the seeing ai app. She used to
have large spotlights, and she could tell if they were on by the heat from
them.
Bert has an app called Boop, which can tell her if her lights are on or off.
Jackie wanted to know the correct name for those bulbs that are plunged in and
twisted to secure them, rather than the screw in bulbs.
It seems that they are called baynot bulbs. There was a good discussion on TP
link plugs, which can be useful for switching on and off those Christmas lights
.
