In Attendance (20 members):
host : Declan Meenagh
Tina Leonard; Annette McCarthy; John Chambers; Bob Corazza; Cearbhall
O'Meadhra; Eamonn O’Connor; Jackie McBrierty; Gerry Eastwood; Joan
Kearns; John Acton; Marian Brennan; Martin Kelly; Michael Lavin; Eoin
Kyne; Mary Lavelle; Albert Brown; Kevin Cave; Joe Murphy; One
unidentified member showing "Owner" as their Avatar.
The meeting opened with an active discussion on Zoom controls
including raising hands, muting audio and screen sharing.
Mary Lavelle wondered how to activate the camera in Zoom on her laptop
Declan advised her to use alt+v Other meeting shortcuts for Zoom in Windows:
audio: alt a
mute and unmute: alt y
Quit Zoom: alt q
Mary led a discussion of Contactless payment and the daily usage limit.
This is a payment method that means you can pay for small purchases
(€30 and under) in most retailers by holding your debit or credit
card beside a keypad without having to enter your PIN.
For added security, you will be asked to enter your PIN after a
certain number of uses. The maximum value for these transactions may vary.
Further details at: Contactless Payments in Ireland - Money Guide
Ireland
John Acton found PayPal very useful for payments with the least amount
of fuss.
Declan warned of the danger of scams when using PayPal.
Mary had a query about closing the BorrowBox search. Cearbhall advised
that it was necessary to double tap the edit box to close it in order
to find the navigation buttons and move out of the search engine.
Declan reported that he has a list of free audio book services that he
will make available on the Fighting Blindness web site in the next few
days. he asked for any recommendations for same to be sent to him by email.
Annette McCarthy pointed out that as she does not use email on her
phone, she could not use Declan's link to Zoom meetings. It was
recommended that she get someone to text the link to her iPhone.
Michael Lavin reported that Google Chrome kept crashing when he had
about eight tabs open at the same time. Declan explained that each tab
in Google is a virtual computer using 4g of server memory. Too many
tabs open would cause Google to crash. He explained that control tab
would show each open tab and control w would close each one.
Mary, Joan and Eamonn discussed how best to reverse the screen
background in iPhone. There was a question of reversing the screen for
a single app rather than for the whole phone.
The result was that some apps support dark mode and some don't.

The shortcut to turn "Classic invert" or "Smart Invert" on or off must
be enabled in accessibility settings. The shortcut is triple tap on
home key or on volume keys in later models.
Annette asked how to remove unwanted WhatsApp messages and images.
Mary explained how she uses the context menu on each message or
selection of messages to scroll to the delete button and remove them.
Joan wondered how to stop receiving list messages in Digest Mode.
Cearbhall advised that she go into her user settings on the
freelists.org web page for the particular list and turn off digest mode.
Joe needs to have Gmail messages go to his inbox. The following steps
should resolve the difficulty:
1. Go to Mail Settings.
2. Go to Inbox tab.
3. In the Importance markers category, select No markers.
4. In the Inbox sections category, at Important, click on Options.
5. From the dropdown menu select Remove
There was a discussion on how to subscribe to various mailing lists
hosted on freelists.org.
Zoom training sessions will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 and Thursday
at
3:00
All the best,
Cearbhall
