In attendance, 11 participants.
Martin and all praised Stuart on his interview about blind tennis with NCBI.
The interview can be found on youtube or their facebook page. Or, at the bottom
of this email.
Stuart will be representing Ireland in the World Tennis games in August. Stuart
is No1 in Ireland.
Jackie was asking about her apple watch. When she goes on to a zoom meeting or
plays something on youtube or audible. controls come up on the watch that
prevent Jackie using the watch. Ken suggested to bring up the app switcher by
pressing the flat button once and close down apps. Jackie closed now playing
and things returned to normal. Jackie will explore removing now playing. from
the watch. Jackie will research this further.
Anne-Marie was asking about the watch. Jackie sang its praises.
Anne-Marie reported back on her microphone on her iPhone, she used a clean
tooth brush and her problem is semi sorted. There is still some work to do as
the sound still isn't great.
Ger was asking about revolut. He forgot his password so had to confirm his
identity but due to his beard this is posing a problem.
Jackie told us about breaking her hearing aid. She twisted off the wrong thing
and crushed some tubing. Thankfully Jackie got this sorted.
Jackie is amazed about the lack of awareness the hearing aid services have
towards vision impaired people. There needs to be more awareness given. A few
people spoke of cleaning their hearing aids and this is tricky with being blind.
Joanne sung the praises of Navilens. Jackie found the printing and cutting the
hardest but once that was done its very easy to get the right side of the code.
We spoke about inaccessible card readers in shops and hopefully businesses will
be made more aware of the needs of blind and vision impaired people.
Jackie, Joanne and Anne-Marie spoke about their Euffy vacuum cleaners. They are
all amazed on how well it cleans. The group are trying to convince others of
the brilliance of these hoovers.
A discussion happened around the accessibility of teams. Jackie rather's teams
on windows as the shortcut commands are great. Stuart said its the same on the
mac. We said its much easier using earphones so this isolates JAWS or NVDA
from the meeting. Split sound is possible with JAWS and NVDA. With JAWS its
Insert space, B, V then either the left or right arrow key, Compatible
earphones are needed. With NVDA it’san add on that is required.
It wouldn't be a Cork meeting without GPS apps coming up. We spoke about the
usefulness of the Moovit app.
Anne-Marie tried it but because no buses travel in her town it wasn't great.
Chris found Moovit useful while on a bus and Jackie still raves about blind
Square. Stuart also had positive experiences with Moovit and Blind Square.
Cearbhall and Paul still like soundscape now Open Scape that is still in the
testing stage.
