I am emailing with a request for volunteers! I am undertaking a project =
with Vision Sports Ireland with funding we received from Sport Ireland. =
We are aiming to try out 2 smartphone apps to improve accessibility to =
and inside gym.
* WelcoMe -lets the facility know that someone with access needs is =
arriving, and what their individual needs are and how best to meet those =
needs.
* Aira - to navigate the gym area and use the equipment independently.
What are we asking for?=20
Try it out and feedback: We need as many people as possible to try these =
apps out and give feedback on their thoughts on if and how they =
performed to improve access (or not).

All levels welcome: You do not need to have any gym experience. We would =
like to get feedback from everyone. In fact, it is important for us to =
get information from people who have never used a gym (my hand is up =
here!)=20
=20
Technology: You will need to have a smartphone but you do not need to be =
highly tech savvy (my hand is up again!). It will involve setting up a =
brief profile with the WelcoMe app which is a very straightforward =
process.

Cost: There will be absolutely no cost to you. We cover the cost of the =
gym and can support with transport to the gym facility, if required. We =
have LeisureWorld Bishopstown and Churchfield on board as well as UCC =
Mardyke.=20

Commitment: We will ask you to visit the gym a minimum of 3 separate =
times, more if you wish!=20

Timeline: We are looking to get moving on this asap and finish up by mid =
November.

Here is a little more info on the apps:

WelcoMe is a cloud based platform where you will learn about the needs =
of the customer and even when they arrive to the building so they can be =
met. Here is a short video to give more detail:

Aira is an app that would be used by the customer independently within =
the gym area. It is a live web connection to trained individuals who, =
through the customers phone camera, can guide and describe routes around =
the gym and the use of equipment to that person to enable them to be =
independent within the facility. This does not require any input from =
the gym establishment.
